“It’s super awesome, because last year we kind of struggled a little bit against our city rivals,” said Snyder, a senior. “It’s always fun to be able to swim against people you know so well and then do amazing against them. And it’s great to be able to do it in a great environment, being our home pool.

“It’s kind of nice to have these city duals early in the season, because you always swim faster when you’re going against people you know. Then, when you get to the away meets where you don’t know the girls as well, you have the confidence that you can swim the fast times. It gives you that much more energy for the rest of the season.”

It took all of eight days for the Dubuque Wahlert girls swimming & diving team to establish itself atop the city dual meet hierarchy.

“We know what we’re capable of doing and we all push ourselves to put our best foot forward for the betterment of the team,” Kurt said. “It’s super fun to have a start like this, because we know we’re only going to be faster later on in the season.

“It helps that our seniors are really good leaders. They’re always giving us such great advice. They’re great people to look up to, and we want to strive to be like them when we get to be seniors.”

Molly Snyder figured the Dubuque Wahlert swimming & diving program would be pretty good this season when she counted the number of talented incoming freshmen on the roster.

“It feels good to get that AQ already so I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the season,” Ward said. “All my teammates were there, cheering me on, so I was motivated by them. There is team motivation in club, but it’s a lot stronger here in high school. They definitely give you a lot more energy.”

Malin Thier and Evelyn Ward introduced themselves to Iowa girls high school swimming in style on Tuesday night.

Our newest Golden Eagles explored campus, met their teachers, connected with classmates, and got a feel for high school life during 9th-grade orientation yesterday.

Meanwhile, families settled into their schools across the system, and now we’re excited for the best day of the year: the first day of school! See you on Monday, Eagles! 💙💛

“It’s important that faith doesn’t just stay during our school Mass time or only when we’re talking about religion class,” Carlson said. “It’s something that is absorbed into our whole school culture and is integrated across curriculum.”

Holy Family Catholic Schools is expanding faith formation for its teachers after the pledge of a $100,000 donation to recur annually.

“It was awesome we won today with our fifth-player score against Prairie,” said Wahlert coach Eric Mueller. “Our depth really helped with that scenario. I’m really proud of the kids today, especially the four seniors that have been great leaders so far, as well as the new guy Kieran Breslin stepping up in a big way with a 72. The weather was back and forth and we knew it was going to be dicey out there today, but fortunately we got the meet in and had only two delays, and we actually finished in a pretty good time.”

The 2026 city boys golf season got off to a splashing start Thursday at Bunker Hill Golf Course in Dubuque with the 15-team Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet.

“It was a lot of fun to wear the Wahlert jersey one last time and have a good performance, not just for myself but for my coaches and the school in general,” said Cu**er, who will continue his baseball career at Coe College in a few weeks. “You’d get someone out, and the next person comes up and it’s just one stud hitter after another. There were really no breaks in the lineup. I just focused on doing what I do best, my defense played great behind me, my catcher called a great game and it just was kind of a perfect storm that ended up really good.
