We are the 1962 eighth grade class from St. Anthony's School in Dubuque, Iowa.

St. Anthony leaders recommend moving students to Holy Family's Kane Street campus 11/13/2020

The church pastoral council this week recommended that Holy Family Catholic Schools transition the students in the St. Anthony-Our Lady of Guadalupe Spanish Immersion Program to the Kane Street campus rather than having a new school built at the church.

"Montgomery came to Dubuque to work in order to earn enough money to buy his freedom, Allen said, but efforts were put in place to bring him back to Missouri as a slave. However, the first Iowa Supreme Court case in 1839 ruled that Black individuals could not be brought back to slave states after residing in free states, and Montgomery was granted his freedom... On Sept. 6, 1840, a mob of White Dubuque men dragged Morgan out of the hotel he worked at and accused him of stealing a trunk of clothing, though Hallstoos noted that historical evidence indicates Morgan likely didn’t steal anything."

Holy Family seeks input on future of St. Anthony school building 09/27/2020

"The St. Anthony school building, constructed in 1966, is in need of millions of dollars of renovations. Holy Family Chief Administrator Phillip Bormann said updates are needed to the school’s heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and electrical systems, the roof is in need of repairs, and there are issues with water penetrating the roof and windows, among other needs."

Loras removes founder's statue after revelations of slave ownership 09/09/2020

"The researcher confirmed that Loras purchased an enslaved woman named Marie Louise while he was living in Mobile, Ala. Loras enslaved the woman from 1836 to 1852. He left her behind when he moved to Iowa but 'hired her out to others and used proceeds from her labor to help build his various ministries' in Dubuque, Collins wrote in his letter."
