Happy first day of classes to all students, faculty, and staff!

Prayer for Studies

Father of Light and Wisdom,
thank you for giving me
a mind that can know
and a heart that can love.

Help me to keep learning every day of my life—
no matter what the subject may be.
Let me be convinced that all knowledge leads to you
and let me know how to find you and love you
in all the things you have made.

Encourage me when the studies are difficult
and when I am tempted to give up
Enlighten me when my brain is slow
and help me to grasp the truth held out to me.

Grant me the grace to put my knowledge to use
in building the kingdom of God on earth
so that I may enter the kingdom of God in heaven.
Amen.

Today is the feast day of St. Maximilian Kolbe, Priest and Martyr. He is the patron saint of those suffering from drug addiction and prisoners.

Saint Maximilian Mary Kolbe, a Conventual Franciscan, is best known for volunteering to take the place of a condemned prisoner in a death camp. But he also worked tirelessly for the spiritual welfare of people through his deep devotion to the Blessed Mother.

September 1st Prayer at Mississippi River for World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

Wild Church: World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

Tuesday, September 1st, 8:30am, River’s Edge Plaza (400 E. 3rd St., Dubuque)

The Church of the Oak is hosting an outdoor prayer on the Mississippi River to celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and to mark the first day of the Season of Creation in the Catholic Church. Our time will feature song, silence, prayer, and water. This year’s theme is “Living Water.” Church of the Oak is part of the larger Wild Church Network, an ecumenical community which brings together spirituality and ecological concerns. The event is rain or shine. Please bring a chair. The event is free and open to the public and will be facilitated by Eric Anglada, local farmer and community leader. Questions? God of hope and mercy,
we lift up to you all victims of
the earthquake in Colombia and
those responding with assistance
and aid.
Protect all who are in any form of danger;
provide practical help to those in need;
strengthen the weary, console the grieving,
heal the suffering; and bless those engaged
in disaster relief efforts with safety and courage.
Help all people of good will to respond with
compassion and generous hearts.
