Summer camp or summer daycare?
Most parents pick one without realizing how different the two actually are for their child.
Daycare keeps your child safe and supervised — and for a lot of working families, that dependability is exactly what the season demands. But much of it is custodial by design: the day is built around supervision and free play, not intentional learning. Your child stays busy, but doesn't always get stretched.

An enrichment camp starts from a different premise — that summer is a chance to grow, not just a gap to fill. Projects, teamwork, problem-solving, and the confidence that comes from trying new things.

Here's the good news: you don't have to choose. At Genius Kids, children get a safe, structured, full day you can build your work schedule around — plus our Think, Lead & Communicate (TLC) curriculum woven through every theme, including daily public speaking practice.

We're the only early childhood franchise with a dedicated daily public speaking curriculum, so the confidence your child builds this summer carries straight into the school year.

The reliability of daycare. The growth of camp. For children 4 months through 12 years.

Summer Learning Loss: Why Summer Learning Matters

By Rennu Dhillon, Founder of Genius Kids

As summer approaches, many parents look forward to vacations, family time, and a break from school routines. While children certainly deserve time to relax and have fun, it is important to remember that learning should not take a three-month vacation.

Research has shown that many children experience summer learning loss, often referred to as the "summer slide." During the summer months, students can lose some of the academic skills they worked so hard to develop during the school year, particularly in reading, writing, and math.

The good news is that preventing summer learning loss does not require hours of worksheets or tutoring. Learning can be woven naturally into everyday activities:

Read together daily, even for just 15–20 minutes.

Explore science through simple experiments and nature walks.

Encourage creativity through art, storytelling, and imaginative play.

Practice public speaking by having children share stories, opinions, or presentations with family members.

Play educational games that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

⚽ Balance academics with outdoor play, sports, and social activities.

Summer is an opportunity to help children discover that learning can be exciting, hands-on, and fun. The goal is not to recreate school at home but to keep young minds active, curious, and engaged.

When children continue learning throughout the summer, they return to school more confident, better prepared, and ready to build on the success of the previous year.

A little learning each day can make a big difference by the end of summer.

Another great solution is to enroll your child in the Genius Kids Fun Summer Camps, filled with exciting weekly themes, special guest presenters, hands-on activities, STEM exploration, outdoor fun, and plenty of public speaking opportunities designed to build confidence and leadership skills.

At Genius Kids, we believe that learning should be fun, engaging, and meaningful—even during the summer months.

Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep shining.

You've been careful about screen time at home. One hour a day. No YouTube rabbit holes. Tablets only on weekends.
Then you tour a preschool, and the first thing you see is a giant SmartBoard with children gathered around it.

Your instinct: wait — is this just screen time with better furniture?
It's a fair question. And the research-backed answer is a clear and important no.

Here's why.
The concerns about screen time in young children are real and well-documented. But they apply to a specific kind of screen use: passive viewing, with no adult present, fast-paced auto-playing content, that replaces physical play, conversation, and sleep.

Remove those conditions, and the picture changes completely.
Interactive, teacher-guided technology — where a child has to touch, decide, answer, or create rather than simply receive — is a fundamentally different activity. It is not the thing the research warns about.

At Genius Kids, a SmartBoard lesson might start with animated images of a ball, a bear, a butterfly. Children call out what they see. One comes up to touch the image that starts with B. Then the lesson moves off the screen entirely — to tables with letters to trace, objects to sort, and clay to shape with their hands.

The SmartBoard is the spark. The learning deepens away from it. Short, purposeful, interactive, and teacher-led — one of five senses we engage, never the whole lesson.
The question in early education was never really "how much screen time?" It is "what kind?"

Picture this: you drop your 4-month-old off at a center you trust completely.
Now picture, a decade later, watching that same child stand at a microphone and deliver a confident, articulate presentation to a room full of adults.
That's the Genius Kids journey — and it begins the day you enroll.
Most early childhood programs serve a narrow window. Infant care here, preschool there, afterschool somewhere else entirely — each transition asking you to re-evaluate, re-enroll, and rebuild trust from scratch.

At Genius Kids, the arc is continuous:
- Infant & Toddler (4 months – 2 years)
- Pre-K & Preschool (Ages 2–5)
- Kindergarten Prep & Early Elementary (Ages 5–8)
- Afterschool & Enrichment (Ages 6–12)
One philosophy. One community. One curriculum that grows with your child from their first months of life through the end of elementary school.
Why does that matter? Every transition to a new environment costs a child something — time rebuilding trust, re-establishing routines, re-orienting. Children who experience continuity of staff, environment, and curriculum show stronger attachment stability, more consistent academic progress, and greater social confidence.
The infant who is spoken to richly becomes the toddler who explodes in language. The toddler who takes the microphone for the first time becomes the preschooler who presents without hesitation. The preschooler who performs on stage becomes the ten-year-old who leads.
This isn't a series of programs. It's a single education — lived one stage at a time.

Summer is coming. So is the slide.

On average, students lose:
-- 2 months of reading progress
-- 2.6 months of math skills

…every single summer of unstructured time.
That's not a small lag.
That's the first 2–4 weeks of every new school year spent re-learning, not learning.
For preschool and early elementary kids, the effects show up differently — less in academic content, more in routine, language momentum, and the social skills that come from daily peer interaction.
The kindergarten teacher who meets your child in September is meeting a slightly different child than the one who left in May.
Here's the good news: it's preventable.
Research shows the three conditions that protect against summer slide are simple:
-- A structured daily routine
-- Continued reading and language exposure
-- Regular social interaction with peers

That's exactly what summer at Genius Kids is built around — themed weekly curriculum, daily public speaking, outdoor learning, drama performances, and a summer showcase for families.
It feels like the best summer they've ever had.

It builds like the best classroom they've ever been in.

The #1 fear among adults worldwide is public speaking.
We teach children to master it before age six.
Not because it's easy — but because the earlier you start, the easier it becomes.

Here's something most parents don't realize: confidence isn't a personality trait. It's a skill. Specifically, it's the neurological residue of repeated successful experiences with challenge.
The "shy" child isn't missing something. They've just had fewer repetitions.

That's why every child at Genius Kids — every single day — takes the microphone. 🎤

Not as a test. Not as a performance. As practice. Daily, structured, joyful practice that builds the neural pathway for "I can do this."

Genius Kids is the only early childhood franchise in the country with a dedicated daily public speaking curriculum. It's the core of our Think, Lead & Communicate (TLC) philosophy — and it's why our graduates show up to kindergarten not just speaking, but presenting.

The most powerful moment for many of our parents? Watching their once-quietest-in-the-room child walk to the microphone — not because they were pushed, but because they wanted to.
