Dear Quarry Lane Alumni,

On behalf of the Tap Initiative, a student-led nonprofit, our team is so excited to announce this year’s Tap into the Night!

Tap into the Night is a student-coordinated multicultural night market that will be held on the Quarry Lane East campus (6363 Tassajara Road, Dublin) from 5-8pm on September 21st.

As an organization we aim to assist in alleviating educational inequity: on a local scale, we help cultural-educational institutions with hands-on work; on an international scale, we provide monetary funding to student programs. This year, our international partner is the Cambodian Community Dream Organization (CCDO), an organization dedicated to improving conditions in the villages surrounding Siem Reap, Cambodia. Any money raised from this event will go directly to funding their health education program.

The night market will include lots of activities such as live music, club booths, food vendors, and performances! For more event details, please either take a look at the event flyer attached to this email or go to https://linktr.ee/tapintothenight.

Although the event is free, if you intend to attend the event, please fill out this google form: tinyurl.com/ti2tn2024. Each visitor will need to fill out the guest form to receive their own google receipt to show at the entrance booth in order to be allowed into the event.

Hello Quarry Lane Community, my name is Saahil Sachdeva, and it is an honor and a pleasure to introduce myself as a Class of 2021 Alumni! Life after high school has been nothing short of spectacular, all thanks to the wonderful faculty, staff, and peers I encountered during my time in high school.

The short story is that QLS is right: education truly is a lifelong commitment. We live to learn. But, I greatly attribute my curiosity to the wonderful teachers of our school. Though it is hard to list all the mentors of my high school story, I extend special gratitude to a few: Dr. Aranda, Mr. Squillante, Mrs. Pezzi, Mrs. Zabrowski, Dr. Ghosh, Mr. Wolosz, and Sr. Mercado. You all are the pillars I steadily build my foundation upon. I would also like to thank the IB program for helping me develop the work ethic required to tackle college and beyond.

Now, as a UC Davis Biomedical Engineering student, I strive for higher academic excellence. I study around the clock to stay on top of classes, plan each moment as a self-improvement opportunity, and network with my community to continue building long-lasting relationships. As a result, some of my recent accomplishments include joining a competitive tissue-engineering lab to model bone marrow in microfluidic devices and securing an internship at the UCD medical center to study biomedical entrepreneurship.

As we kickstart the QLS alumni network, I look forward to hearing about all the accomplishments my fellow graduates will achieve. Just remember, no matter where our journeys take us, we are Quarry Lane Cougars, so let the world hear us roar!

Congratulations to QLS alum, Juliana Gerard '20, for receiving the Girl Scouts Gold Award for her work in establishing the Student Mentoring and Interactive Learning Exchange (SMILE) Club at Quarry Lane. Juliana founded the club in 2019, and as club president, coordinated with school administration and club members to lead workshops for Lower School students in Kindergarten through grade 5. Congratulations, Juliana!

Pleasanton resident Juliana Gerard has been honored with the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the highest recognition in Girl Scouting. Her Gold Award project was creating Student Mentoring and Interactive Learning Exchange (SMILE).

Congratulations to QLS alumna, Lori Luo ('19), for the successful arrival of six baby ball python snakes this week. Lori was instrumental in helping Dr. Pale breed the two parent snakes - Kalahari and Adenine. What an exciting week at good, ol' QLS!
