The Duarte Unified Choral Department is comprised of groups from our two secondary schools, Northview Village and Duarte High School: Cardinal Chorale, our advanced treble choir, Ambassadors, our women’s choir, Chamber Ensemble, our mixed choir, Cantabile, our competitive show choir, and Concert Choir, a mixed group of members of various choirs. Our choirs are given vocal and dance training, learn how to read and write music, and sing in various languages, styles, and genres. Throughout the school year, all of our choirs travel to various performances, music festivals and competitions, competing against other schools in their division. In the past few years, our choirs have received Three Superior Ratings, Two Excellent Ratings, two first places, two second places and a third place at various festivals and competitions throughout Southern California.We have had the privilege of singing at world renowned venues, from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland via recorded video in the Virtual Youth Choir with composer/conductor Eric Whitacre. Our show choir Cantabile participated in the 26th Annual Los Angeles Master Chorale High School Choral Festival at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, where they sang under the baton of composer/conductor Rollo Dilworth and LA Master Chorale and LA Opera Director Grant Gershon. Most recently, our Cantabile Show Choir made their television debut on the show "Hit Record" hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a music video. This school year our show choir Cantabile was selected to perform in the Broadway Residency Performance Series with Manhattan Concert Productions. They will be singing with the New York Chamber Orchestra and professional Broadway stars on stage at the legendary Carnegie Hall in February 2018.
