Although I was hoping for a different outcome last night, I woke up this morning to a sunny day and was filled with hope, possibility and love for our beautiful school community.

I have made a commitment today to do the following:

1) Get back on the sub list (already scheduled several sub days for June!)

2) Meet with Dr. Niedermeier to discuss my ideas for how to engage, listen to, and welcome the community more. (Already made an appointment for tomorrow!)

3) Attend as many BOE meetings as I can.

So, what are you doing and what more will you do?

While the District has done an excellent job of providing the community with information, that communication is one way and the community is limited in the extent of their voice. The district should seek more avenues for communication and dialogue between the BOE/administration with the parents and greater community.

I would like to propose that the district adopt a Communication Engagement Policy or a Community Engagement Strategy to identify ways in which key internal and external stakeholders can engage and participate in discussions and give their input.

I've enjoyed many of the presentations at the BOE meetings in which teachers and faculty have reported on programs, outcomes, and initiatives. I see that this information fosters involvement and transparency which creates trust. I'd like to offer more of these types of showcases to the community.

I want to thank the current BOE for adopting the DEI policy which clearly articulates what Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are, how they are carried out at DCS and how they tie into the mission of the district. I also appreciate that the implementation of this policy will be evaluated annually.

Our students need safe and protective caregiving systems which provide guidance and advocacy to address unmet mental health needs.

School personnel should be trained in "Mental Health First Aid" or a similar model to recognize and respond to mental health emergencies.

I'd like to look into creating a Mental Health Taskforce to research and propose a plan to address this need which could include input from internal and external stakeholders.

I listen to understand another's perspective with compassion and not to judge right and wrong.

I work well collaborating and believe the best decisions will be made when all 7 Board members offer their thoughts and insight.

I have experience in reaching consensus by building on shared goals.

I am a critical thinker and make decisions based on evidence, with a board perspective and the ability to take multiple viewpoints into consideration.

I have many touch points in our community and have a desire to hear ideas and opinions from community members.
