In collaboration with DCNR Bureau of Forestry staff, first-year wildlife technology students designed and executed a tree identification hike at nearby Bilger’s Rocks, which is officially now part of the Moshannon State Forest District. Participating in this state-wide initiative for the 6th consecutive year, students share the process of learning more than 100 different tree, shrub, and vine species with the public. These are vital skills for becoming the next generation of wildlife and natural resource managers.

Are those students looking for Professor Roen's car keys?! No, those are students from the second-year Terrestrial Wildlife Management course joining forces with Fort Indiantown Gap, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and Hungry Hook Farm to improve habitat on state game lands. Virginia Tilden and Erika McKinney from FIG and Justin Clark from PGC emphasized partnerships like this one help provide on-the-ground habitat for a variety of species from grassland songbirds to pollinators. As Wildlife Technology alums, Erika and Justin were also able to provide career advice from professionals that were once in our students' shoes. Hungry Hook provided over 3000 plants grown from native seed, almost all of which made it into the ground with the help of our students.

Students and faculty from Penn State DuBois and University Park joined more than 700 fish and wildlife professionals at the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Annual Meeting, where they shared perspectives, explored career paths and built connections across the field.

The Keystone Elk Country Alliance is proud to present the 2026 Conservation Education Scholarships in partnership with Seneca Resources, Company, LLC.

The Keystone Elk Country Alliance and Seneca Resources Company, LLC award deserving PA high school seniors continuing their education in the field of conservation, wildlife, science, or education a college scholarship of $1,000. This is the 7th year for this annual scholarship and this year we awarded seven scholarships. Each applicant is required to submit a portfolio with an essay about experiences in their lives that have inspired them to pursue the environmental field of studies, a letter of recommendation, and a letter of acceptance from a college or secondary education school.

After thorough review from our Scholarship Committee, we would like to congratulate our 2026 Conservation Education Scholarship winners, Cecily Bell, Isaac Grovanz, Morgan Kimmel, Dalton Koch, Maria Ours, Leanna Smith, and Riquel Tripodi. Each of these outstanding students have displayed what we feel is a strong representation of this field. With the increased number of applicants and award winners over the years, this scholarship remains competitive and well deserved.
