Summer Learning HeadStart, Grade 7 to 8: Fun Activities Plus Math, Reading, and Language Workbooks: Bridge to Success with Common Core Aligned ... (Summer Learning HeadStart by Lumos Learning) 04/14/2026

SUMMER THOUGHTS:

Landon is home sick today, so while he’s resting and catching up on TV, I’m starting to gently bring up the summer conversation…
Not just the fun plans—but what we’re doing to keep skills fresh too. Workbooks? Tutoring? A mix of both?
At our previous school, they used the Simple Solutions Summer books, which I was never a huge fan of. While they offer daily math and language practice, students are often left to figure things out on their own—so if there are gaps or confusion, it doesn’t always get resolved without extra help.
I recently came across this workbook on Amazon (not sponsored/endorsed), and it actually looks like a great option:

What I like about it:
• It’s designed to take about 15 minutes a day—an easy win during breakfast
• It includes an AI tutor and a guided answer key, offering step-by-step support
This is something I really love. I always encourage students to use tools that help them understand, not just get the answer. Having that kind of support—whether you’re at home, in the car, or waiting at summer activities—can make a big difference when a tutor isn’t immediately available.
At the end of the day, whatever you choose this summer—tutoring, workbooks, or a combination—consistency is what matters most. A little bit each day keeps skills sharp, builds confidence, and helps kids feel capable and prepared heading into the next school year.
Summer is absolutely a time to rest and recharge… but it can also be a great opportunity to help our kids take ownership of their growth in a simple, manageable way.

You blink… and suddenly your “baby” is a middle schooler managing emails, assignments, calendars, and practices. 🤯
As both an educator and a middle school mom, I know how overwhelming this stage can be.
Middle school is my jam—and I specialize in confidence-based math and organization support. When students believe in themselves, everything changes. 💙
If your middle schooler in Dripping Springs could use extra support, I’d love to help them build skills, confidence, and momentum for success!

Feel free to reach out—I’d be honored to support your child’s journey. 💙 Dr. Pursch 281-636-0440

Snapped this pic this morning. We're really loving our new motivational journal for middle schoolers - it's been a great way to start the day. Landon looks forward to it every morning, and the topics have led to some amazing convos. Wanted to share in case any other parents are searching for a helpful resource for their teen. đź’• Anyone have a similar favorite that helps their kiddo stay organized and focused?

Can you believe it’s back to school? Is everyone else a bit anxious? Overwhelmed? We are too… This time, I have my very own 7th grader and he his ready, but nervous. To help him survive, we wrote down a few tips and thought to share. We’re not experts by any means, but these are some things that work for us. I shared the link to the one pager in the comments below. Let me know how your back to school goes as well.

Do I need to take an ISEE prep class? That depends! Step 1: have your student take a practice test to see where you stand. This will help you determine if they need help in one specific content area or all areas! This will also help you determine if they feel comfortable with the content or need some test taking strategies. Don’t know where to start? Reach out to me and I would be happy to talk to you about where to find some free resources. Always happy to chat and help!
