“My major life goal has always been to help people,” says Khadijah Harris-Brown. A former pharmacy tech at CVS and the now-closed Taylor Hospital, she realized that her people skills, natural empathy and problem-solving abilities pointed to a new career in social work. As a DCCC Social Work major, she met with Nicole Azar, interim director of Employment and Co-op Services, who helped her land an internship with the Women’s Resource (WRC) in Wayne. Khadijah was a natural fit for its “Girls Lead” program, mentoring middle and high school girls. “I help them build decision-making, communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.” She loved the work and WRC loved her, offering her a contract position.

A single mother of a six year old, she juggles single parenting with DCCC classes, weekend hours as a home health aide, her WRC work and her job as a Flame Ambassador at DCCC’s Southeast Center. “Along with Nicole, my DCCC professor Carly Ellman has been so supportive. At DCCC, you are not on your own. They want you to win! As a new student, you find a community—they’ll help you with everything you need. They’ll help you build your whole plan. Special DCCC Home Soccer Match on Tuesday, September 29!

Join us to honor our veterans at the Men’s soccer match against Atlantic Cape Community College on Tuesday!

Festivities begin at 3 p.m. with food, veterans’ recognition and opening remarks.

A halftime ceremony will take place on the pitch to honor USMC veteran Hartford Saunders, DCCC Director of Athletics Dwayne Saunders’ father!

We paid a visit to our very own Art Gallery’s A.F.A. Foundations Exhibition which opened today!

Each year the A.F.A. Foundations Exhibition showcases the foundational coursework that supports our A.F.A. degrees — and highlights the incredible work produced by students across all majors. These classes give every student, no matter what their future goals might be, the chance to build skills, experiment and discover their own creativity.

Whether you’re pursuing an A.F.A. degree or exploring a new skill outside your major, this is just one of the many ways that you can pursue what inspires you at DCCC.

When Skyler Bailey moved from Florida to Delaware County three years ago, the single mother of four boys watched the transformation of the former Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill into DCCC’s new Southeast Center from her home right across the street. She remembered her long-held dream of attending culinary school—her signature dish is gluten-free sweet potato pie—and eventually opening a gluten-free bakery. The Southeast Center is now home to DCCC’s Center for Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies, and after speaking with a DCCC faculty member she felt more confident in her abilities. Once she stepped into the new state-of-the-art teaching kitchens at the Southeast Center “It was like being on one of those cooking shows, like MasterChef!” and she was sold.

Today Skyler is balancing her Culinary Arts classes with parenting and working as a behavioral health therapist. She loves the Center’s impressive teaching kitchens and theater-style demonstration classroom. “It’s great working at the different food stations and using the restaurant kitchen,” she says. “I’m learning so much from Chef Fike and Chef Vincent, who are amazing and supportive, and I love the professional cooking tools.” We can’t wait to see her bakery sign go up someday! DCCC Community! The College will be closed from Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, September 8. See you then!

Attention students and those who planned to visit the College Thursday morning, August 20: the College buildings and services at all locations will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in preparation for fall semester, which starts on Monday, August 24.

Operations will resume after 12 p.m. on Thursday. We can't wait to see you!
