An Invitation to Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School Alumni

In 2012, our much beloved schools were saved from closure due to the tremendous efforts of, literally, thousands of Bonner & Prendie supporters. The formerly separate girls’ and boys’ schools became “co-ed” in the much newer building, resulting in the “Prendie building” being listed for sale by its owner, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

In most recent announcements, you have learned that there is an agreement of sale of the “Prendie” building by way of agreement between the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Delaware County Community College. This sale was supported by a unanimous vote of the Bonner & Prendie Board of Directors and it is hoped that closing on the sale will take place in 2020. You can read the announcement information by clicking the link here and by reading a letter to the community by our President.

Today, Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School is thriving. This past Fall, Bonner & Prendie welcomed another strong class of over 200 freshmen. The school currently has over 60 student clubs, organizations and athletic teams with the Pandas and Friars winning 4 Philadelphia Catholic League titles in the last three years. In addition, in the 2018-2019 academic year, our students completed over 12,000 community service hours and earned over $18 million in college scholarships.

Alums! See the below letter from Dr. Cooke about tonight's football game on campus! Please read for important details! Go Friars!

Dear Students and Families,

As many of you know, this Friday, August 23, Bonner & Prendie will host the Upper Darby Bowl vs Upper Darby High School for the first time in the annual game’s history. With this, we expect a large crowd and there will be some changes to the organization of the game that you need to know if you plan to attend the game.

Transportation/Parking

Parking will be FREE to the game, but it will be limited. Because of the limited parking spaces, we are encouraging students, families, and guests to carpool or take public transportation. The only entrance to campus will be the main entrance off of N Lansdowne Avenue near the Bonner & Prendie electric sign. The map included shows the path of entrance (via the red arrows). Upper Darby Police, volunteers, and signs will be present to assist with the flow of traffic. Parking lots will open at 5:30 PM.

We will also have volunteers directing cars to park in specific spaces once they arrive on campus. Please be aware that the driveway and parking spaces in front of the Prendie building will be blocked off for spectators to stand and watch the game. In addition, we will direct traffic to specific lots around campus. Once a lot is full, it will be closed off. Handicap spaces will be available in the main lot (Lot 1 on map) of the school at the entrance to the field (directly outside the school’s main doors). Once a lot is full, it will be closed off. There will be parking available at Upper Darby High School as well (which is a short walk away from campus).

If you do plan to drive to the game, we ask you to be patient and to follow directions from our parking volunteers. Please do not park on the grass or in spaces blocked off. Also, please do not park in the surrounding neighborhood. If you plan to drop off anyone for the game, please do so at the campus entrance, just outside the Prendie Auditorium (in Lot 7 on map) do not continue into the parking lots. Tailgating will not be permitted in the parking lots before, during, or after the game.

Game Entrance/Seating

We are encouraging the students to sit on the hill-side of the field. Entrance to the game is FREE for current Bonner & Prendie students with a student ID card only at the student entrance to the game. A $5 admission will be charged to all other spectators.

There will be three entrances to the game. Bonner & Prendie students will enter the game where they always do via the ramp closest to the main entrance of our building. This entrance will also give access to the upper-level viewing area. Upper Darby students will enter via the ramp on the opposite side of the field close to the SEPTA trolley stop on Lansdowne Avenue and Garrett Road. Parents and families can enter near the Prendie Auditorium. These areas will be clearly marked once you approach the field. All spectators will receive a ticket once they enter the game. It is important to hold this ticket the entire time.

Once you arrive at the field, please be aware that there is limited bleacher seating-which will be located along the Prendie driveway, in the upper-level viewing area (see map). We are reserving this section for those needing assistance (ADA). The Bonner & Prendie student section will be available ON THE HILL closer to the softball field. Upper Darby students section will be available ON THE HILL closets to Lansdowne Avenue. Students, please come prepared to sit on the hill (bring a blanket or chair). General seating and viewing areas will be available on the hill as well as along the fence line on the upper portion of the parking lot in front of the Prendie building. Feel free (and we encourage you) to bring a blanket and/or lawn chair to enjoy the game.

Amenities

There will be a food truck, concessions, and merchandise area in the at the game. There will also be portable restrooms located in the Bonner & Prendie student section, in the Upper Darby student section, and in the driveway area in front of Prendie. There will be no access to the restrooms in the building. All school buildings will be closed. Also, tailgating in the parking lots is not permitted before, during, or after the game.

Please remember that this a school event and all students will be held accountable to the Student Code of Conduct. A reminder that Upper Darby Police Department will have a presence at the game as well and will be assisting in enforcing policies and procedures.

As mentioned before, this is a very special event and we are hopeful that you will join us and be part of history! Thank you again for your cooperation and attention to these details. We are looking forward to your support in making this event a success.

Go Friar Football!

Thank you and God Bless,

Dr. John Cooke

Great story on the work that three Alumni members of our community ( Bonner classmates Father Dennis Weber and Mr. Jim Gula both of the Class of 1972 along with Mrs. Tina Gula , Class of 1974) are doing with a special community in Delaware County!

Players of the Challenger League set aside their bats and hats for an emotional awards banquet on June 26. The adaptive baseball group pairs Cardinal O'Hara students with intellectually disabled adults served by archdiocesan Catholic Social Services.
