Ribbons cut. Doors open. 🎭🎻🎺

Today our APA Draper 3 students stepped into their brand-new theater, orchestra, and band rooms for the very first time — greeted by a ribbon ceremony before walking into their classrooms in the new auditorium wing of the Draper 3 Performing Arts Center.

The excitement was hard to miss. Students toured spaces built specifically for the work ahead of them: rehearsals, ensembles, productions, and years of performances still to come. Construction continues in the remaining areas of the auditorium, but these classrooms are open and ready.

A project like this doesn't happen on its own. Thank you to our staff, our APA Governing Board, and Boyd Martin Construction for their vision, hard work, and commitment that made today possible.

Some of the most important training our teachers do all year has nothing to do with curriculum.

Yesterday, our after-school teams — including Sistema and Collegium Hall — spent the afternoon in Fight Back training, learning how to stay calm, think clearly, and protect the students in their care. They showed up tough, focused, and genuinely eager to learn.

That’s the preparation we want for every adult in our buildings. More training ahead this week. 💙

Every year, APA chooses one idea to build everything else on. This year, it’s EFFORT.

Effort is the key to all achievement — and it’s a skill, not a personality trait. Here’s what our teachers are training on this week:

Optimism Makes Sense. When you look at the data and the world around you, there is real reason for hope. Optimism isn’t wishful thinking — it’s what gives students the confidence to keep going.

“I CAN.” Our highest-performing teachers share one trait: confidence that their work will pay off, and confidence that their students can succeed when they do the work. We want that spirit in every room.

Let the students do the lifting. Great teachers coach and encourage — they don’t do the thinking for the student. Real learning happens when the learner is the one working.

Listen intently. Think hard. Speak precisely. That’s the year ahead. 💪
