Thanks to the generous support of the Washington's Crossing Questers Chapter and the Pennsylvania Questers, Hammerstein Museum has purchased a double student lamp modeled after the electrified Manhattan Brass Company lamp that illuminated Oscar's study throughout his professional life.

According to biographer Hugh Fordin, Oscar carried cherished habits and reminders of his earlier years into adulthood. One of them was writing on legal pads by the light of a double student lamp, a practice he developed as a student at Columbia University, where he first crossed paths with the younger brother of a classmate: Richard Rodgers.

More than a decorative object, this lamp represents Oscar's deep sense of sentiment, tradition, and connection to the experiences that shaped the stories and lyrics that continue to inspire audiences around the world.

We are deeply grateful to the Washington's Crossing Questers and the Pennsylvania Questers for their commitment to preserving history through education, the protection of meaningful places, and support of restoration projects like this one. Their generosity helps us bring Highland Farm and Oscar's story to life for future generations.
