I am often asked this question by piano teachers and parents of piano students. Many piano teachers tell me how when they have their piano students listen to my compositions from my various albums and piano music books, that their students smile and their eyes instantly light up. When asked if they would like to learn one of my pieces, they excitedly say yes.
I love composing fun piano music for pre-teens, teens, young adults and adults. Many were composed specifically to help inspire and motivate kids during their teenage years when some tend to struggle staying excited and motivated to practice and play the piano - especially teen boys. Countless parents and piano teachers refer to my COOL SONGS as "student savers" and I continually hear how my music rescued or saved a struggling teen piano student who wasn't enjoying their piano lessons or felt like quitting the piano.
When their piano teacher or parent gave them one of my various Essential Piano Exercise books or one of the pieces from my COOL SONGS Series or my "Adventure Book Piano Series," then their student came alive and played the piano more because of the music, accompanying MP3 minus tracks, video lessons, COOL music videos of the music I share on my YouTube channel, or the countless motivational messages and materials I include - from my various motivational poetry books I have written, to my Empowered by Positivity Course I offer on my website. My focus has always been about mentoring piano students and piano teachers to learn music theory, improvisation, and composition the FUN way.
I often refer to this as Piano FUNdamentals with a special emphasis on the word FUN. I create and compose original fun piano music that everyone began referring to as COOL SONGS. The name stuck. Piano teachers asked me where they could obtain these COOL SONGS for their piano students. Parents asked me what these COOL SONGS were and how their piano students could begin playing them. I began creating fun piano exercises to go along with the music. The books became known as ESSENTIAL PIANO EXERCISES.
Students love such titles such as "Adventure Awaits," "The Journey," and "Onward" from my album and book, "Adventure Awaits." Or they can't wait to learn "Super Sonic Boom," "New Wave," "Hybrid Hero," and "Platinum" from my album and book, "Platinum."
Students love performing such pieces as "Effortless," "Boulevard," "Renegade," "VOID," and "Anticipation" from my album "Effortless" and included in my book, "Essential POP Piano Exercises Every Piano Player Should Know."
Students can't wait to learn and perform "TRIUMPHANT" from my book "Triumphant" or "Sea Fever" from my book "Sea Fever." One of my students even performed TRIUMPHANT in the White House for Barack Obama.
The books TRIUMPHANT and Sea Fever each have 10 triumphant sounding pieces. Advanced piano students love learning "Sweet Melancholy," "Shadows," "Blessing," "Lavender Sunsets," and others from my album and book, "Sweet Melancholy."
The students have often commented that the music looks and sounds more difficult than it actually is - and I have composed the music to intentionally look and sound more advanced.
There are eight separate books in my COOL SONGS Series, featuring 163 COOL SONGS. They begin with primer level up through advanced pieces. Each COOL SONG teaches music theory concepts through the piece. The series progresses through three separate levels: 1. The Apprentice Stage, 2. The Maestro Stage, and 3. The Virtuoso Stage.
