This group of students recently completed the second electrical class in the Electrical Technician program offered through the Corporate and Continuing Education (CCE) Division at Greenville Technical College. These students also participated in grant program through the Goodwill SC Upstate and Midlands region and was presented with a battery-operated tool kit. Electrical Helpers start out earning about $18 an hour. When finished with training these students can be working as Electricians earning $25 plus dollars an hour (bls.gov). Building Tomorrow’s Skilled Workforce
Team work is key to building a strong workforce. Today, Greenville Tech’s Carpentry students are learning to build walls and other entry level skills for the local workforce. Students are walking out of the classroom and on to the job site with entry-level skills that help them succeed. Greenville Technical College has added a new section for NCCER Core Introductory to Basic Construction Skills which is a prerequisite course for the Electrical Technician and NCCER General Carpentry classes starting in the Fall Semester. The NCCER Core Introductory to Craft Skills course provides classroom and hands on instruction in: Basic safety, Introduction to construction math, Introduction to hand tools, Introduction to power tools, Construction drawings, Basic rigging, Basic communication skills, Basic employability skills, and materials handling.
Training dates: April 4 to May 21, 2024, 8 am to 2 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A Corporate and Continuing Education (CCE) point of interest.
The Skilled Trades department hosted its annual Contractors Meet and Greet on March 1, 2024, where more than 30 students and contractors were able to exchange business cards and resumes. The event is designed to allow carpentry and electrical students to network with local building and electrical contractors, complete applications, and learn about companies here in Greenville.
