Congratulations to Lila Melcher '27, Minh Pham '27, and Claire Voss '27 on being named a 2027 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist!

Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of Semifinalists in the 72nd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. High school juniors entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2025 PSAT. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Bishop Shanahan High School is pleased to welcome Mr. Matthew Carstens as our new School-Based Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator!

A Pennsylvania-certified PK-12 school counselor, Mr. Carstens holds a Master of Education in School Counseling and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from West Chester University. He brings experience in student counseling, crisis intervention, social-emotional learning, family and community collaboration, and the development of data-informed student support programs.

We are excited for Mr. Carstens to enhance and expand Bishop Shanahan’s mental health and wellness program. His appointment renews our commitment to supporting the development of the whole student and to ensuring that every student is known, valued, and supported as a beloved child of God.
