Dr. Hayley Nelson helps us harness the power of the brain to understand HOW and WHY we do what we do.

Neuroscience feels intimidating, and perhaps you've always thought that you're not positioned to be an authority on the science behind what's happening in your client's brain. Dr. Hayley Nelson founded the Academy of Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience, and she designed Certificate Programs with one goal in mind:

To make neuroscience approachable for coaches who want to stop undervaluing themselv

Happy Birthday to my favorite person, Tom ❤️
Coming home from our incredible trip out west — standing together at the edge of the Grand Canyon — I couldn’t help but feel so grateful for this life we’ve built together.
You show up for all of us every single day. Whether you’re coaching soccer, basketball, football, or lacrosse, the boys are so lucky to learn from you — not just about sports, but about commitment, teamwork, and heart. And the way you give your all at work and still come home ready to jump in wherever needed… it never goes unnoticed.
Charlie and Henry have the best role model in you, and I have the best partner.
We love you so much. Here’s to another year of adventures, laughter, and making memories together ❤️

What an incredible effort from the entire crew, earning 1st place in the U13 Cup 1 championship at The Baltimore Mania tournament this weekend. And a humble brag for my #1 goalie, Charlie, who managed to only let in one goal the entire weekend (4 games)! Huge congratulations to all the teams, especially our 2013 DTown White family 🎉

Stress doesn’t mean you lack discipline.

It means your brain shifted into survival mode.

When stress rises:
– Decision-making drops
– Cravings increase
– Patience decreases

If you missed my LinkedIn Live with dietitian Bonnie Giller yesterday, you can watch the replay. Just DM me “Replay” and I’ll send you the link.

And join us March 25 for the full free webinar called: When Stress Hijacks Your Brain: How to Work With It, Not Against It — and Take Back Control

Your brain isn’t broken.
It’s protective.

Have you ever said:
“I know what to do… I just don’t do it when I’m stressed.”
You plan your meals.
You intend to sleep earlier.
You promise yourself tonight will be different.
And then stress hits.
Suddenly you’re reactive instead of intentional.
Overwhelmed instead of focused.
Reaching for relief instead of following through.
This isn’t a discipline problem.
It’s a brain state.

Join me and Registered Dietitian Bonnie R Giller for a 15-minute LinkedIn Live conversation exploring what actually happens in the brain under stress — and why willpower alone doesn’t work.
In this conversation, you’ll discover:
• Why stress shifts you into reactive mode
• What happens to decision-making under pressure
• Why habits feel stronger when you’re overwhelmed
• How stress impacts eating patterns and behavior

This LinkedIn Live is a preview of our upcoming free webinar:
“When Stress Hijacks Your Brain: How to Work With It, Not Against It — and Take Back Control” which is taking place on March 25 at 1:30pm EST. (More info and registration info coming.)

If stress has ever made you feel stuck, inconsistent, or frustrated with yourself — this conversation is for you.
No neuroscience degree required!!
Join us live on LinkedIn on March 12th at 12 noon EST.

Spring isn’t just a good time to clean your house.
It might be the perfect time to spring clean your brain.
From a neuroscience perspective, mental clutter can come from more than just a busy schedule.
It can come from:
• information overload
• physical clutter
• unresolved stress
• lack of restorative activities
The good news? Your brain responds incredibly well to small resets.
In my newest blog post I share the neuroscience behind:
🧠 why decluttering your space can improve focus
🧠 how small goals build motivation in the brain
🧠 why holding grudges keeps stress circuits active
🧠 the cognitive benefits of hobbies
🧠 and the surprising brain boost of birdwatching
Yes… watching birds may actually support mood, attention, and mental restoration.
Sometimes brain health looks less like optimization…
…and more like stepping outside and noticing the world around you.

I’ve been a little quiet lately—and honestly, it’s because life has been a lot.
Holidays. New year. New semester. Kids back to school. Everything happening in the world. And here in Philly… this winter has been no joke. ❄️
After a recent interview with Everyday Health, I found myself thinking deeply about resilience—and how we’ve been taught to get it wrong.
Resilience isn’t grit.
It’s not pushing harder.
And it’s definitely not ignoring stress.
I wrote a new blog on what resilience actually looks like from a neuroscience perspective—and how we bounce back without burning out.
🔗 Read it here: [link in bio]
And if you want to go deeper, my Stress & the Brain mini-course and ACBN certification programs (now with new, reduced pricing!) are always there when you’re ready.

Welcome to 2026!

As a neuroscientist, I spend a lot of time thinking about growth, change, and resilience.
As a human, I know those things don’t happen through constant pressure.

🧠 Neuroscience reminder: the brain changes most effectively when effort is balanced with rest, safety, and connection—not burnout.

This year, I’m prioritizing health, family, laughter, and meaningful work that supports a meaningful life.

I’d love to hear from you:
What are you intentionally leaving behind from 2025?
What are you protecting as you step into 2026?

In a chaotic world, sometimes you just need a little reminder of how beautiful it actually is.

They did it!!!
Congrats to Henry and his entire team for snagging the 1st place championship win!! It was an awesome season and a nailbiter game to end it (in overtime)!! And kudos to the coaches who did an amazing job with these kiddos (especiay the super sexy )

I’m so proud of Charlie and his entire team for such an awesome tournament this past weekend! As goalkeeper, Charlie only let in 2 goals the entire weekend and helped his team qualify for Finals by blocking a key shot during a penalty kick shootout!! I couldn’t have been a prouder goalie mom ⚽️ The boys all certainly earned this coveted hardware around their necks!! 🏅
