Philly-area seniors earn college degrees before high school graduation 05/21/2026

Imagine earning a college degree before you even graduate from high school. At a time when traditional four-year college tuition and student loan debt is skyrocketing, many students are doing just that at DCCC—via high school dual enrollment. While high school graduations haven’t yet happened this spring, Thatcher Respicio and Marcella Ballisty, and more than 30 other local high school students, earned their associate degrees from DCCC last week. Thatcher, of Downingtown East High School, majored in Engineering while Marcella, of Downingtown West High School, earned a Liberal Arts degree. They successfully juggled high school and college studies with their high school clubs and activities, including—in Thatcher’s case—varsity hockey.

Both are headed to four-year universities next fall as sophomores. Thatcher will pursue mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech, and Marcella plans to major in aerospace engineering at Penn State University. CBS 3 Philadelphia TV reporter and anchor Joe Holden caught up with the two at DCCC’s Commencement last week for a great interview!

🌎✨ Check out Earth Science at DCCC's Downingtown Center!

While visiting the Downingtown Center this week, ESS100 students were out and about collecting hands-on relative humidity data using a sling psychrometer 🌦️

During a lab on atmospheric properties and processes, students measured dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures to calculate relative humidity. Measurements were taken indoors and outdoors and compared to explore how water v***r varies across different environments. A classic meteorological tool, real data, and solid atmospheric science in action.
