🤖💙💛 Spartan Design Robotics Takes on Rio Hondo League Day 1!

All six of our VEX V5RC teams competed Saturday alongside 48 teams for a morning filled with competition, teamwork, and plenty of learning!

This year marks the 7th year of the Rio Hondo Robotics League! It was great seeing familiar faces, reconnecting with fellow teams and coaches, and kicking off another year of friendly competition. It's pretty awesome to see how much our robotics community has grown over the years!

🔥 A few highlights from Saturday:

- 🏆 2822M went undefeated with a 4–0 record!
- 💪 2822D and 2822F both finished strong at 3–1!
- 🤖 2822A, 2822C, and 2822E gained valuable match experience and identified areas to improve.

But robotics is about more than wins and losses. It's about students solving problems, making adjustments, working together, and figuring things out when things don't go as planned.

I'm proud of our Spartans for continuing to show up, compete, and learn. Every tournament is another opportunity to become better engineers, programmers, drivers, and teammates.

A big thank you to our Spartan families, mentors, coaches, and everyone who makes the Rio Hondo League such a great experience for our students!

Great seeing everyone again! Looking forward to more robots, friendly rivalries, and plenty of fun along the way! 💙💛🤖

What an incredible day at the Stauffer Challenge VEX V5 Robotics Competition!

Events like this truly take a community, and we are incredibly thankful for everyone who gave their time and energy to make the day possible.

A huge thank you to our DUSD middle schools and staff, Stauffer families, Downey High School and Warren High School students, USC engineering students, SAG-AFTRA volunteers, SoCal Alliance, WarBot mentors, and members of our robotics community who came together to support our students.

Thank you to everyone who served as judges, referees, scorekeepers, inspectors, queuers, field resetters, check-in volunteers, concessions and hospitality volunteers, and our setup, cleanup, and technology crews. Every role mattered!

The best part was watching students from across our community compete, collaborate, problem-solve, make new friends, and celebrate their love of robotics. 🤖🏆

We couldn't have done it without all of you. Thank you for helping us create such a memorable experience for our young engineers!

🏆🤖 WHAT A DAY FOR SPARTAN DESIGN! 🤖🏆

Our six Spartan Design teams competed at our home Stauffer Challenge, and we are incredibly proud of how our students represented Stauffer!

🌟 2822D – Spartan Design Deep Space 🏆 DESIGN AWARD 🥈 Tournament Finalist 🔥 Undefeated 6–0 in Qualification Matches 🎮 6th Overall in Robot Skills

What an incredible performance from Team D! The Design Award is especially meaningful because it recognizes much more than how a robot performs on the field. It celebrates the students' engineering design process, Engineering Notebook, robot design, and their ability to communicate their work to the judges.

But this was a great day for the entire Spartan Design program!

🤖 2822C – Advanced to the Round of 16 and finished 9th in Robot Skills
🤖 2822E – 3–3 in Qualifications and advanced to the Quarterfinals
🤖 2822F – 3–3 in Qualifications and advanced to the Quarterfinals
🤖 2822M – Advanced to the Round of 16
🤖 2822A – Continued gaining valuable competition experience and identifying what to improve next

Five of our six teams competed in the elimination tournament, and our students came away with something even more valuable: DATA! 📊

They now know what works, what doesn't, and what needs to get better. There are robots to rebuild, autonomous programs to write, notebooks to improve, and plenty of engineering ahead of us.

That's what competitive robotics is all about. ❤️

Congratulations to 2822D and to ALL of our Spartan Design students. And a huge thank you to our families, mentors, volunteers, judges, referees, and everyone who helped make the Stauffer Challenge possible.

🤖 Scrimmage, Snacks, and Shenanigans! 🍕🍩

Our Spartan Design teams had an amazing time competing in our internal scrimmage league! It was a fun day filled with matches, strategy, teamwork, problem-solving, and plenty of learning alongside our incredible SoCal Alliance and WarBot mentors.

Add in donuts, pizza, and lots of shenanigans, and you have the perfect robotics experience. We may have had a little too much fun—and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Thank you to our mentors for sharing your time, knowledge, and enthusiasm with our students! 💙⚙️
