St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy This is the official page for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey, CA. St. Matthias High School (1963-2013). About 80% of St. Matthias High School for Girls.

Matthias Academy was born from two great traditions of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles- Pius X High School (1953-1998) and St. In the year 1953, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles launched Pius X High School which served a co-ed population from the southeast area of Los Angeles County. The campus was home to Pius X High School from 1953 until the Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced a school realignment transforming Pius X, a co-educational high school, into a co-institutional high school with St. Matthias, phasing out the Pius X program over a three-year period. Matthias' all-girls student body of 300 transferred to Pius X campus. This resulted in a larger all-girl Catholic high school located on the sprawling 17-acre Pius X campus which became known as St. In 2012 the Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced that St. Matthias High school would transition to a co-ed school with the formal name of St. Matthias Academy which began enrolling freshman boys and girls in the Fall of 2013. With this transition, the school saw many transformations in its student profile and the facility upgrades and renovations that took place in the Spring and Summer of 2013. A grand re-dedication and blessing with the Archbishop of Los Angeles took place on August 9, 2013. The school officially opened its doors to students the following week with 26 boys and 237 girls. Today the school serves a co-ed population of 455+ students to provide them with an opportunity to receive an outstanding Catholic college preparatory education.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Last Wednesday, PMA gathered to celebrate Mass together. The Mass was centered on Peace - on our call to action in inviting the Holy Spirit to bring each member of our community peace of mind, peace of spirit, and peace of heart.

✨ Introducing St. Margaret’s Closet! ✨

What began as a simple idea from junior Milagros Del Cid blossomed into a beautiful student-led initiative with the help of Monica Santos, Bella Gomez, Darla Villanueva, and Leah Estrada. 💕

Through the generosity of our community, St. Margaret’s Closet offers students the opportunity to shop for Homecoming dresses and accessories completely FREE! 👗

More than just a boutique, St. Margaret’s Closet is a reminder of the power of kindness, generosity, and Christ’s love. Our hope is that every student feels loved, valued, and inspired to pay that kindness forward. ❤️

Last Friday, Warriors, Faculty, and Parents gathered to celebrate the academic achievements of our Warriors. The Honors Assembly recognized students in grades 10th-12th who earned Honor Roll & Principal’s Honor Roll during the ‘26 Spring Semester. We also recognized all 9th-11th Warriors who earned Above Benchmark in Math and/or English during this recent STAR Testing Window!

We encourage all our Warriors to continue taking the steps needed to succeed and grow!
