DGPL is… exploring the story of the Rogarshevskys!

During the virtual Tenement Museum Tour, hear the story of the Rogarshevsky family—the parents, Fannie and Abraham, raised six children at 97 Orchard Street in New York, balancing work, family, and their religious faith. Discuss how the family earned a living in the garment industry, and how that work impacted their experiences at home. The Tenement Museum presents virtually, patrons attend in person. https://downersgrove.libnet.info/event/17139175

Deepen your understanding of Yiddish literature and Jewish life, religion, and culture through DGPL and the Yiddish Book Center: Public Libraries Program. The library is honored to have been chosen, along with 38 other libraries, to participate in this year's program: Between Two Worlds: Exploring Jewish Culture and Religion through Yiddish Literature. Join us throughout September and October to learn about the incredible diversity in religions, cultures, and identities throughout the community.
This program is in partnership with the Yiddish Book Center and the American Library Association, and is made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc.

Greg R Baird will join us on Tuesday, October 6, from 7-8:30 p.m., to lead a powerful program about Matthew Shepard's legacy 28 years later, why it still matters, and the role of our shared stories in creating change. https://downersgrove.libnet.info/event/17161081

Drawing from his personal journey and professional experience, Greg Baird illustrates how one individual can create meaningful change. Through powerful storytelling, attendees will gain practical tools to become effective allies in both workplace and community environments.
