Back to school comes in like a lion. These four tips are life-saving—and relied on by our editors, who have done the back to school season dozens of times.

What a difference two years makes! Center Cass 66 was formerly in a dire financial crisis with program cuts, understaffing, declining physical facilities, failing systems and the prospect of State takeover. Today CCSD66 has been cited by US News & World Report for having some of America’s best schools and by the State of Illinois for being in the top 10% of Illinois districts. A change made possible by community support, wise stewardship of our Board of Education and the hard work of teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, parents and students. Center Cass 66 is again a great place to learn, a district that parents want to move their families to and a district where teachers want to come and have a career.

The CCEA would like to see CCSD66 continue to grow and improve and to keep moving forward securing educational excellence and fiscal security. This April 1st will see four open seats for the Center Cass Board of Education in Election Day. The winning candidates will assume the heavy responsibilities in shepherding Center Cass into a future worth creating and building on the achievements of the current Board and its retiring incumbents.

For this reason, the CCEA is pleased to endorse the “Dads for Education” ticket of Steve Dlugo, Adam Sage, Darren Spiegel and Brian Liedtke for election to the School Board. As professional educators we are impressed with their commitment to listening, fidelity to the district’s strategic plan, welcoming innovation and doing so in a manner that is fiscally responsible and mindful of all stakeholders in the community. We see the “Dads for Education” ticket as one that is ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work so that the best days of Center Cass are yet to come.

Please vote for Steve Dlugo, Adam Sage, Darren Spiegel and Brian Liedtke for the Center Cass 66 Board of Education on April 1st

In March, the CCEA invited all five candidates for the Center Cass 66 School Board to participate in a "Meet the Candidates Night" to give them an opportunity to speak to parents, teachers, students, and voters in our community.

What a year it has been!

When we started school in August, Center Cass School District 66 faced a grim and uncertain future. Sports, programs, transportation, teaching positions and instructional time had all been cut and the district was in a terrible financial crisis with no way to cut our way back to fiscal health. Worse, adopting a fully transparent auditing system that did not borrow money from future revenues meant that the district was now on a direct pathway for takeover by the State of Illinois. Today, with a vote of support from our community in the referendum, extracurriculars for children have been restored, staff to fill critical needs are finally being hired, overdue repairs are being scheduled and fund balances are heading to the black instead of the red. District 66 and its students have a future!

None of this occurred by accident. Parents, teachers and community members had to put aside differences and come together to save 66. It took a tremendous effort, compromise and leadership to be successful. It is because of their dedication, vision and willingness to meet an extraordinary crisis by rolling up their sleeves that the CCEA formally endorses Edson “Tripp” Burton, Tiffany Watson and Nicoletta “Nikki” Giancola-Shanks for election to the Center Cass District 66 Board of Education.

In addition to the hundreds of hours of work these candidates have already put in to benefit our students and our district we are heartened that the Stronger 66 ticket brings a blend of professional education, financial expertise and intergovernmental experience that will make them highly qualified additions to our current Board of Education. Their decision to campaign on prioritizing student mental health, the hiring of interventionists, community outreach and fiscal responsibility demonstrates a strong interest in being good stewards for the community and for our kids

Please vote for a Stronger 66!

Please consider helping voters ensure their vote is counted.

This is a sign up to help us "chase" ballots. These people either voted provisionally or have a rejected Vote By Mail ballot and need to get to the County Clerk's office. You will need to go to their homes to speak with them. We will provide further instruction.

Mrs. K is a perfect example of what a Center Cass educator does - uses their own money on their day off to purchase a curriculum for her students. Grateful to be surrounded by such wonderful educators who continually put their students first.
