Each week I give my students art prompts to paint collaboratively. My morning students love coming in to see what my PM students have added to the paintings, and vice versa. These are from Wacky Art Camp, last week. Zoom in to read the prompts.✨magic. What should I do with them? I think this is probably what I’ve been saving the big blank wall for. 🤔 Looking forward to seeing how this week’s paintings turn out!

Art Club at TAP 🎨✨

This week, we explored bleeding tissue paper on canvas — a little creative problem solving included since we don’t have sink access in the studio. Sometimes limitations push us to think differently, and honestly, that’s where the magic happens.

After the colors blended and dried, I asked students to slow down and study their work. How did it feel in their body? Light? Heavy? Calm? Joyful? Then we looked closer: What do you see hidden in the shapes and colors? Mountains? Waves? Space? Nothing at all?

From there, students added their “thinking portrait” — a reflection of their inner world, imagination, and instinct. It takes patience and bravery to let go of creating things the “right” way and instead trust what comes naturally to you. These artists did exactly that, and they absolutely amazed me. 🖤

TAP Art+ Craft Studio welcomed its first guests! This class was actually scheduled before the studio was set up, but it turned out to be a great trial run. I got to see what works, what doesn't (who knew chairs could be so hazardous?! 🫣), and I had the chance to introduce them to my latest art lesson: the inspiring story of Clementine Hunter. 🩷🎨
