Summer in Seattle is genuinely hard to beat, so make sure you and your students are taking the time to enjoy it.

Hanging out at the lake is a family favorite, farmers markets are running, days stretch past 8pm, and for about three months straight, this city has become exactly the place everyone moved here hoping it would be.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, the school year quietly starts to fade — which for most kids is a good thing. For kids who spent the year rebuilding confidence, finding their footing, or working twice as hard as their classmates just to keep up, three months without structure can undo a lot of what took so long to build.

It doesn't have to be intense. It doesn't have to feel like school. One hour a week with the right person can be the difference between walking into September ready and walking in starting over.

Drop-off done. Now what?

Here's how Liddane families at our Green Lake location spend the hour — because your time matters too.

Walk the lake. The 3.2-mile path is flat, tree-lined, and honestly one of the better things about living in this city. Bring the dog, too.

Retreat Greenlake for coffee. Exactly the kind of place you want when you need to exhale before the day really begins.

Visit Mockingbird Books on the north end of the lake. A proper children's bookstore where it's genuinely hard to leave empty-handed, for your child or yourself.

Explore the Woodland Park Zoo. It is just a few minutes away and their new Forest Trailhead exhibit is open this summer, a wooded walk-through with treetop paths and red pandas that Seattle families are raving about.

Or just sit on the grass and do nothing. Relax and recharge.

Your child is in good hands. You've got an hour. Rest assured it is time well spent for both of you.

If your child was in elementary or middle school in 2020, they've been playing catch-up in ways that don't always show up on a report card.

It's not just the content gaps. The chaos of 2020 created the confidence gaps, the social rhythm gaps, the "I don't know how to ask for help in a classroom anymore" gaps. Five years later, a lot of students are still quietly rebuilding, and summer is either the window where that work continues or where it stalls.

What helps is one dedicated tutor, the same person every week, who knows exactly how your child thinks. Not a rotating staff. Not a new face every session. The same tutor who knows your daughter needs a movement break at the 20-minute mark, and that your son reads better when he starts with the hardest paragraph first. That relationship is the intervention. Everything else builds from there.

Saturday mornings at Liddane just got a lot more productive for rising seniors who are ready to tackle their college applications.

We're launching Weekend Study Hall this summer, a brand new offering exclusively for college application work that runs every Saturday from 9am to 11am, June 20 through November 21. Students come in, set their goals for the session, and do the actual work in a structured, supportive environment alongside other students navigating the same process. There's something about being in a room where everyone around you is heads down on the same hard thing. It moves differently than working alone at the kitchen table at 10pm.

Sessions are available in person at Green Lake and Columbia City, and online if that works better for your family. Drop-in sessions are $100 and a full season pass is $2,000.

Twenty-five years of showing up for Seattle students.

We've worked with students who came in convinced they couldn't do it and left knowing they could. We've had families stay with us for a decade, some of them long enough to bring a second child, a few long enough to bring a third. We've watched students go from dreading school to choosing careers in the subjects that used to make them cry.

None of that happens without the right person in the right room at the right time. That's what we've built — not a tutoring center, but a place where students finally feel understood.

You reviewed the summer reading list, set up the planner, signed them up for camp, and you still lie awake wondering if any of this is going to be enough.

That guilt is familiar to every parent of a child who has additional learning needs, and feeling that way doesn't mean you're failing. Feeling that way means you're paying attention.

The summer isn't too short and the gap isn't too wide, but the window is real and the window matters. LTLS is excited to congratulate one of our students, Elizabeth, from our Chicago branch, who was recently admitted into the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA)! Elizabeth and Celeena worked together on the SAT spending many hours completing practice problems and talking through solutions.
