Comparison is one of the quietest forms of self-harm we have.
We don’t always recognize it as harm because it doesn’t look like harm. It looks like ambition. It looks like discipline. It looks like refusing to let yourself off the hook. But somewhere along the way, holding yourself to an old standard stopped being motivation and started being punishment.
The body you have today has been through things the body from five years ago hadn’t been through yet. Diagnoses. Sleepless seasons. Loss. The slow accumulation of a life actually being lived. To ask it to perform like none of that happened is to ask it to be someone it isn’t anymore.
What if the work isn’t getting back to who you were?
What if the work is getting honest about who you are now, and building from there?
Your body kept its promises. It got you here. It’s still getting you somewhere. The least you can do is stop talking to it like it failed you, when the truth is it’s been carrying you the whole time.
Meet it where it is. That’s where the next chapter starts.
