We are honored to showcase our Spring/Summer 2026 Morse Grant recipients! This week we're highlighting the grant used for MS Science Teacher & STEAM Department Chair, Jenny Garetto. Her work, titled "Empowering Solutionaries: Advancing STEAM Innovation, AI Literacy, and Computational Thinking through Sphero BOLT+ Robotics," will support the purchase of Sphero BOLT+ educational robotics equipment for use in Middle School STEAM Club and select Lower School STEAM experiences.

The Sphero BOLT+ is a programmable robotic platform that combines coding, engineering, design thinking, data collection, artistic expression, and problem-solving in a hands-on learning environment! 💻 These tools will give our students unique hands-on STEAM experiences to broaden their learning opportunities. We look forward to seeing this initiative in action.

At Avery Coonley, we’re proud to support educators who are committed to continuous learning and professional growth.

This summer, music educator Konrad Pawelek traveled to Austria and Poland to expand his knowledge of innovative approaches to music education. Thanks to a Fund for Teachers Fellowship, Konrad studied the Orff Schulwerk approach at the Orff Institute at Mozarteum University in Salzburg alongside educators from around the world.

His learning continued in Poland, where he studied with renowned musician and educator Joszko Broda, exploring innovative connections between music, nature, storytelling, and folk traditions.

This experience builds on three summers of Orff Schulwerk study and the completion of all three certification levels. Konrad is now bringing new ideas, teaching strategies, and international perspectives back to Avery Coonley to strengthen our music and orchestra programs.

We’re grateful to educators like Konrad who continually expand their practice and then bring that learning back to enrich the experiences of our students.

Our Group 7 and 8 students kicked off the school year with some hands on experience playing chimes! 🎶 These musicians in Chimes 2 played Boomwhackers to collaboratively identify mystery songs. It takes focus, active listening skills, and an appreciation for each person's individual note to bring the song to life within the ensemble.
