As we celebrate , we’re proud to introduce Juan Fernandez, a powerful voice for ALICE workers whose leadership is rooted in lived experience, cultural connection, and deep community engagement – and who will co-lead one of our sessions at the upcoming National .
Executive Director at Head Start Community Program of Morris County, Juan aims to ensure the experiences of ALICE workers shape both conversations and actions. From elevating their perspectives in ALICE Community Advisory Committee meetings to driving policy changes that support financial stability and employee retention, his work is creating real impact.
Juan shares:
"My Hispanic heritage – a rich blend of Puerto Rican, Colombian, and Chilean – has taught me to value and welcome the perspectives of people from many cultures. It has also given me a unique and meaningful connection with ALICE workers, many of whom share similar cultural roots. Because of this, our communication is not only clear but also built on mutual understanding and trust. It is in honoring my past that I find the strength to uplift others and ensure their voices are heard."
