🤝 Holy Cross High School Supports Tee It Up for Teens

Last week, Holy Cross High School was proud to serve as a sponsor for the Tee It Up for Teens Golf Benefit at Maple Dale Country Club (MDCC)! ⛳

The event raised funds to support the Catholic Heart Workcamp Mission Trip through the Youth Ministry Program at Holy Cross Church in Dover, DE.

Representing HCHS on the course were Tom Fertal, Head of School, along with HCHS Board of Trustees members Brian Lessard, Frank Daniels, and Pete Eason. Our Director of Advancement, Lisa Marie Furjanić, volunteered at the putting contest and enjoyed sharing information about Holy Cross High School and our students with attendees.

It was a great day for a great cause, and we are honored to support programs that inspire service, faith, and community.

Today we joyfully celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, honoring the birth of the woman chosen by God to be the Mother of Jesus. Mary's life is a beautiful example of faith, humility, and trust in God's plan.

As we commemorate her birth, may we be inspired by her unwavering "yes" to God's call and seek to follow Christ with the same love and devotion. Let us ask for her intercession for our students, families, community, and all those in need of hope, peace, and healing.

Today, we honor the hard work, dedication, and contributions of workers across our community and nation. We are especially grateful for our teachers, staff, families, and community partners who work tirelessly to support and inspire our students every day.

Spend a day on the course for a great cause at the Holy Cross High School Golf Tournament on October 16th at Jonathan's Landing Golf Course.

More than just a day of golf, this event invests in the opportunities that help Holy Cross High School students learn, lead, and succeed. Support from golfers and sponsors helps enhance academic programs, student organizations, faith formation, and other initiatives that strengthen our school community.

🗳️ The Student Council Race Is On!

Our Student Council candidates are stepping into the spotlight as the race for office officially begins! And if it seems like campaign posters are popping up everywhere, you're not imagining it. From hallways to backpacks and even the occasional unsuspecting student, campaign season is definitely in full swing!

Student Council members play a key role in organizing school events, encouraging student involvement, supporting school initiatives, and helping ensure student voices are heard. Their ideas and leadership help shape the culture of our school and make a positive impact on our community.

🙏 Faith in Action: The Power of PREACH

What a wonderful prayer service today! Our school community came together in prayer, song, and reflection as Mr. Fertal led us in a meaningful celebration of faith. He began by teaching students the uplifting song Trading My Sorrows, filling the room with energy and joy.

We were especially proud of several of our freshmen who stepped forward to share the readings and help lead the service, demonstrating confidence and a commitment to their faith.

Our message focused on the word PREACH, reminding us how the Gospel can inspire the way we live each day:

Pray – Jesus shows us that a life of service must be rooted in prayer.
Respond – Like Jesus, we are called to respond with compassion to the needs of others.
Encourage – Be someone who encourages others and helps them see their God-given gifts.
Act – Ordinary acts done with extraordinary love can become powerful expressions of faith.
Carry – We can carry the Good News of Jesus wherever we go through our words and actions.
Hope – Let the hope God has placed in your heart become a source of hope for others.

This powerful message is one we can take with us as we interact with one another throughout our daily lives.

🎭 The Secret's Out!

Mrs. Leonard announced today's big news... and the excitement was palpable! This year's student production will be Arsenic and Old Lace!

The Commons instantly filled with cheers, smiles, and anticipation as students learned what they'll be performing this year. The reaction was unforgettable. In fact, we're pretty sure the excitement could have been heard all the way down Route 13!

This photo says it all. Students immediately turned to their classmates, sharing ideas, discussing characters, and imagining who might fill each role as the energy spread across the room.

Whether students dream of taking center stage or prefer working behind the scenes with sets, costumes, lighting, sound, or stage management, every student is encouraged to be part of this special event. Theater is a team effort, and there's a place for everyone. We can't wait to see our students bring this classic comedy to life.

🇺🇸 Proud to Support Military Families!

We had a wonderful time connecting with families at DAFB Sports Day! Thank you to Dover FSS and Crystal Bishop, Commercial Sponsorship/Advertising Coordinator, for the opportunity to be part of such a great community event.

As a school, we are proud to support military families through every stage of their educational journey. We understand the unique experiences that come with military life, and we are always grateful for opportunities to connect with the incredible families who serve our country and call our community home.

We were especially thrilled to see Mrs. Iseminger, one of our parent ambassadors and the proud mother of one of our students. Her enthusiasm, warm smile, and dedication to our school community are a perfect reflection of the relationships that make our school such a special place.

Today we kicked off a new initiative that will truly have immediate and long lasting impact. HCHS has adopted a House System. All students, faculty, and staff were grouped into 4 houses. Mr. Fertal provided the structure of the system- including all of the elements that the students themselves will decide on: House name (Saint), Latin motto, imagery, colors, scripture verse, virtue, and more. These elements will be worked on over the coming weeks. We cannot wait to share the results with our community- as we bring to life this unique portion of the student experience!

🎉Welcome, Class of 2030!

Today we were thrilled to welcome our newest students to Holy Cross High School for Freshman Orientation!

The day began with a name game icebreaker, helping students get to know one another before setting off on a school-wide scavenger hunt. The reward for the winning team? One free lunch on the house. After all, what else would you expect at Holy Cross High School? 😊

Our freshmen walked through their class schedules, explored the building, and enjoyed a catered lunch from Chick-fil-A. More importantly, they began building the friendships and connections that will make Holy Cross High School feel like a second home.

Father John from Holy Cross Church joined us to celebrate Mass and shared a message on the Feast of St. Monica about faith, prayer, and perseverance. As the patron saint of mothers, St. Monica reminds us of the important role that mothers and families play in supporting, guiding, and praying for our students. His reflection was a meaningful way to begin the school year and a reminder that at Holy Cross High School, you're not just joining a school, you're becoming part of a family.

What an inspiring way to begin the school year. As we prepare to welcome our returning students tomorrow, we look forward to sharing another year rooted in faith, learning, and community.
