September is exhausting, but September is magical. I’m so lucky to get to meet kids where they are, see their progress right up close, and support their growth. My sister and I had a long chat today about not wishing childhood away by rushing kids to the next point for our own adult convenience and it’s an idea that really takes residency in my brain in the fall. It’s this kid’s first time right now and that’s magical, wonderful, joyful, worthy of celebration. Let’s not miss the moment to see through a child’s eyes and hear their voice 💕

Well this brought me way back to the 1900s… my introduction to Andy Boysen’s music was at Vermont All State, in either 1998 or 2000. I spent 2000-2004 under his baton at UNH, and periodically see his more recent pieces in the hands of my students - but I’m not sure I’ve seen this particular music in half a lifetime. As an added bonus the same kiddo was carrying Lincolnshire Posy. I’m waiting for a Holst Suite or the Overture to Candide to ambush me to triple down on the nostalgia.

One more class picture to mark this occasion: two working bassoon reeds and FOUR working oboe reeds. I ordered backup oboe reeds, fully expecting most of these would be unusable practice reeds, and maybe that was the trick? I like the reeds I ordered but these are good too, and now my students and I will have many options.
