Tree Tuesday: Blackgum (Nyssa sylvatica) is a member of the tupelo family native to Delaware. One of the last to leaf out in spring, it is among the first to lose its leaves in fall. Its dark blue fruit (called a drupe) is preferred by birds and wildlife. Its gray bark is divided into rectangles by black fissures. Known for hardiness, its leaves turn a fiery-red in autumn. goo.gl/IqOQIo
