Monkey pox virus is prevalent in Africa, but has been reported in other parts of the world such as the 2003 US outbreak. The 2022 monkey pox outbreak has seen cases been reported in Europe, the Americas and Australia.

External causes of impaired skin integrity include hyperthermia, hypothermia, force, and shear, abrasion from immobility, environmental humidity, cognitive deficiencies, surgery, paralysis, advanced age, radioactivity, chemicals, and physical immobilization. Sometimes, the special beds and other devices that relieve pressure put the patients at risk of impaired skin integrity. Internal factors that can cause impaired skin integrity include poor nutrition, vascular deficiency, obesity, edema, and neuropathy. People suffering from diabetes and other auto immune disorders are at a high risk of impaired skin integrity.
