Making Memories Childcare & Preschool

Making Memories Childcare & Preschool At MMC&P, I provide a warm, home-like environment where children feel safe, loved, and valued.

Through calm routines and play-based learning, children build confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning while I support the whole child.

Today we explored shadows! We watched our shadows shrink, grow tall enough to touch the ceiling, moved our bodies in silly ways, and even made shadow puppet animals. We clapped out syllables, worked with button shapes, and made sand art. Everyone thought the best part was shaking the trays to spread the sand! My older kiddos squeezed in some fine motor journal work, and by special request, we brought back the magnet confetti cupcakes!

Today we explored how different tools can be used to squeeze juice from fruit, played a fruit counting and matching game, and learned about artist Piet Mondrian. After looking closely at his use of shapes and primary colors, the kids created their own Mondrian-inspired masterpieces. Lots of fine motor work, problem solving, counting, creativity, and conversation in our play today.

We packed a lot into our preschool morning today!
We read It Smells, and everyone got their very own copy to keep. We continued our body study, created some body study art and explored X-rays to see what’s hiding inside our bodies.

We worked in our fine motor journals and practiced building letters. We also looked closely at a bird’s nest and noticed all of the lines that make it up. Then we practiced making diagonal lines just like the ones we need when we make the letter A. I loved seeing their little nests come to life! And they loved building them!

Our cupcakes needed sprinkles so the kids used the number line to find and match their number, counted the dots, added the correct number of “sprinkles” and then used magnet wands to pick them up.

Today was all about our amazing bodies! We built a giant skeleton together, created our own X-rays, moved our bodies while finding rhyming words, made button patterns, and practiced forming our lowercase m’s. Lots of hands-on learning!

Such a great preschool morning! We talked all about our heads, body parts, and what makes us, us!

Our “noodle brains” were a huge hit! The kids used tongs and scissors with spaghetti noodles while working those little hand muscles. We also made family puppets and talked about what we love about our families, worked on the letter M in our fine motor journals, read a story, and sang songs. Lots of hands on learning and learning through play!

Our first day of preschool is officially in the books! ❤️ We kicked off our All About Me theme with such a fun morning! We did a Community Color Challenge, talking about our communities and the things we see in our neighborhoods. We learned a little about Picasso and used mirrors to create self-portraits. We read an All About Me poem together and practiced finding the rhyming words, then read I Am Enough by Grace Byers. My older kiddos also worked with me in small groups on some literacy and math activities.

The birthday dramatic playroom was a HUGE hit! They baked, dressed up, celebrated each other, and planned some pretty incredible parties. Such a great first day celebrating what makes each of us special!

We are starting our All About Me theme tomorrow, and our Birthday Party Dramatic Play Room is ready!

The kids can wrap presents, design birthday invitations and thank-you cards, and cut out and decorate their own balloons that we’ll turn into a big balloon bouquet on the wall. They can dress in their finest, bake cakes and cookies, take their babies to the ice cream cart for a sweet treat, play music, take pictures, and even use the dollhouse for small-world play to throw their own mini birthday parties.

There is SO much learning packed into this room without it ever feeling like “work.” They’re practicing fine motor skills through cutting, wrapping, writing, and decorating, building language and social skills as they plan parties and play together, using their imaginations, making choices, problem-solving, and learning about kindness and celebrating others.

Birthdays also give us so many opportunities to talk about who we are, how old we are, what we like, our families and friends, and what makes each of us special.

Today we celebrated our school-age friends heading back to school tomorrow with a Toy Story party! We pinned the tail on Bullseye, decorated the spaceship, made sticker sheets, dressed as our favorite characters, and celebrated a birthday! We even had a full Toy Story menu with Woody tater-tot badges, Rex dino nuggets, alien cucumbers, Toy Story applesauce, Goldfish, and alien cookies!
Such a fun day making memories!

We are doing SO good with all of our new routines! ❤️ Some friends are transitioning to nap mats, some are potty training, we have new friends joining us, and everyone is rocking it!

Today we pulled out the vending machine and everyone got to pick a sweet treat for snack. We also broke out the microphone and had quite the little concert! Such a fun day with my little crew! ❤️
