Douglas County Partners In Education ​Connecting community resources with schools in Douglas County to ensure the academic success. Partners in Education of Douglas County, Inc.

(PIE) began in 1996 as a partnership between the Douglas County School System and the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. The PIE program is designed to provide a hands-on opportunity for local businesses and organizations to share their expertise, time, resources, and ideas to enrich the academic experience for students in the community. All PIE relationships are individually designed to have a p

ositive impact on student achievement and to promote college and career readiness. Any business or organization in the Douglas County area is invited to participate in the PIE program. There are no dues or fees to become an active partner in education. The only thing needed is an interest in student achievement and the willingness to become involved in the program. Opportunities to participate in PIE are virtually unlimited.

We had a fantastic turnout and loved seeing so many educators, business leaders, community partners, and friends of PIE come together to connect, share ideas, and learn more about supporting Douglas County schools.

These conversations and connections are exactly what Partners in Education is all about. When our schools and community come together, we can make an even greater impact for our students.

A special thank you to everyone who took time out of their morning to join us. We’re grateful to have such an engaged community of partners!

🍕 Partnership in action!

A big thank you to Papa Johns Pizza for continuing to show up for Douglas County students and families in meaningful ways!

Papa Johns recently donated $750 worth of coupons to the Douglas County School System's Homeless Division. The coupons were distributed to families experiencing food insecurity, helping provide access to meals when they may need a little extra support.

The donation was provided through Jill Smith, Homeless Outreach Facilitator for the Douglas County School System, who works to connect students and families experiencing housing instability with resources and support.

Papa Johns continues to be one of PIE's outstanding corporate partners, and we're incredibly grateful for the many ways they invest in our students, families, and schools. 💙

💙 Board Member Spotlight: Lorrie M. Wallace

Meet Lorrie M. Wallace, Education Coordinator at Georgia Power and a dedicated member of the Partners in Education Board!

For more than three years, Lorrie has been involved with PIE, helping strengthen the connection between education, business, and our community. Throughout her career, she has been passionate about connecting students and educators with STEM initiatives, leadership programs, career opportunities, and resources that prepare students for the future.

For Lorrie, supporting our schools is about investing in the future of Douglas County.

"Every student should see a future filled with possibilities, and it motivates me to help them develop the skills they need to succeed."

Her advice to students reflects that same passion:

"Success does not always follow a straight path, so embrace challenges, work hard, and understand that resilience and character will take you farther than talent alone."

Looking ahead, Lorrie would love to see PIE develop a countywide initiative that ensures every high school student has at least one meaningful interaction with a business or community partner before graduation, helping students explore future careers while also building a stronger local workforce.

And something you may not know about Lorrie? She has dyslexia, describes her leadership style in one word as "servant," and outside of work enjoys reading, line dancing, traveling, and serving others.

💙 The power of partnership is making a difference—one pair of shoes at a time.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Dunnam at Youth Villages for his generous donation of shoes to students at Mount Carmel Elementary School.

This thoughtful gift will help meet an important need for students and families in our community, ensuring children have the confidence and support they need to walk into school ready to learn.

School Counselor Coletta Warren shared:

"Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. We are truly grateful for your donation of shoes. They will be such a blessing to the students at Mt. Carmel and will make a meaningful difference for many of our families."

Moments like these remind us that when community partners step up, lives are changed in meaningful ways.

💙 Board Member Spotlight: Katie Arfanakis

Meet Katie Arfanakis, Marketing Director and Communications Committee Chair for the Partners in Education Board of Directors.

Katie has spent her career working with nonprofit organizations and believes that investing in students creates a ripple effect that strengthens families, schools, and the entire community.

When asked why she serves on the PIE Board, Katie shared:

"Kids and education are at the heart of everything I do. Every child deserves opportunities to succeed, and I believe community partnerships help make those opportunities possible."

Her advice for students is both encouraging and empowering:

"Everyone has a time to shine. For some it's in school, for others it's later in life. Don't compare your journey to someone else's."

Looking ahead, Katie hopes to see a PIE Pantry in every school, helping ensure students have access to the resources they need to learn and thrive.

🎨 Because of the generosity of our Partners in Education community, Douglas County art classrooms are starting the school year with extra supplies and endless possibilities.

Following our Kick-Off Event, we had the privilege of delivering donated art supplies to Douglas County School System art teachers. From markers and crayons to paint, paper, brushes, and more, every donation will help students explore their creativity, express themselves, and bring learning to life through the arts.

Thank you to every business, organization, and individual who contributed. Your generosity is more than a donation of school supplies—it’s an investment in our students, our teachers, and the future of our community.

Together, we're helping ensure Douglas County classrooms have the tools they need to inspire the next generation of artists, creators, and innovators.
