The bookfair is coming Sept. 14-18. We will also be celebrating Grandparents Week during this week. Grandparents are invited to a pancake breakfast any morning.

In the month of August, we had 159 students with perfect attendance (no absences and no tardies)! Attendance Champion certificates will be going home today to those 159 students. All 159 students were then entered to win the August family Chick-fil-A prize pack. Congratulations to Saira and her family for being the lucky winners for August! Who will win next? 🌟

💙🌟We’ve had a great start to the 26-27 school year! Students have been engaged in instruction since day one! Teachers had their first PLC today and rocked out unpacking standards. ALL of our stars are shining!! We love our school!! 🌟💙

🍎 Celebrating our 2026-2027 Teachers of the Year ✨

Bright Star Elementary Teacher of the Year Debbie Streetman enjoys teaching because it gives her the opportunity to connect with students and their families and build lasting relationships.

“Because I work with all grade levels, every day brings something new to learn, create and build upon, which keeps teaching exciting,” she said.

Streetman has been an educator in Douglas County for 31 years. She has taught Program Challenge for grades K-5 for the past 20 years, including the past 11 at Bright Star.

Streetman earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in early childhood education from the University of West Georgia and her specialist degree from Nova Southeastern University. All of the experiences helped shape her approach to teaching and her commitment to meeting the needs of every learner on their level.

Outside of school, she has been married to her husband, John, for 30 years. They have a son, Dustin, and two precious grandsons, Harper and Ezra. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing with her dogs, fishing, attending concerts and riding Harleys.
