For as long as I could remember, my role was to be validated by those closest to me. I always tried to go above and beyond to appease to avoid disappointing anyone, always said “Yes” when I really wanted to say “No,” and always picked up the phone to listen to everyone else’s issues while I suffered in silence. Constantly pouring from an empty glass to fulfill others, putting on a brave face like everything was ok was for everyone but myself and everyday I am grasping the concept that it’s okay to be me authentically. Realizing that no validation matters besides the one from the Big Homie upstairs has been an eye opening experience and very freeing. I’m just grateful that I was blessed to see that life does get greater later.
