Governor Brian P. Kemp has officially proclaimed this month as Disability Employment Awareness Month!

To celebrate, we are highlighting GVRA’s very own Shirley Robinson, a Blind Services Coordinator who is blind. For over two decades, Shirley has dedicated her career to helping individuals overcome barriers, pursue meaningful employment, and achieve their goals.

To Shirley, National Disability Employment Awareness Month is more than a celebration—it carries a deeply personal message.

When life gives you low tires…turn it into a lesson! 😂

My tires needed a little air today, so of course we turned it into a Project SEARCH learning opportunity! Our interns jumped right in and learned how to check the tire pressure and add air themselves. 🚙💨

One thing about Project SEARCH—we don’t let a good learning opportunity pass us by! Whether it’s a job skill, a life skill, or just something that needs to be done…we’re going to learn how to do it! 💪

This month, we celebrate Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, their cultures, languages, experiences, and contributions to our communities.

Deaf Awareness Month is also an opportunity to learn, listen, and help create more accessible and inclusive spaces. Small steps—like providing captions, learning about different ways people communicate, and making information accessible—can make a meaningful difference.
