Today was mock interview day for our soon-to-be graduates 🎓 I didn’t get a picture of everyone, but in this group, Kaleb said that his future’s so bright, he’s got to wear shades 😎 I think they’ve all got bright futures and our guest interviewers did as well! Thank you to Jonathan Smith from Southeast Health, Jodi Phillips from HealthActions, and Nicole Langford from Flowers Hospital for helping with our interviews today!

Our students were allowed to dress up today for class, as long as it was related to physical therapy 👻 We had a skeleton labeled for a practical, the “Therabandit”, PTA Barbie, an injured athlete, and origins and insertions. Students also brought snacks to share. It was another fun day in the PTA program!

Our first year PTA students have been learning about personal protective equipment (PPE), passive range of motion (PROM), how to transfer patients, and wheelchair components and activities. Today they had the opportunity to combine all of these skills into a practice treatment session in our Simulation Center.

Today was our annual Disability Brunch. Our 2nd year students were given assistive devices, orthoses, low vision goggles, gloves to simulate decreased sensation, weighted limbs, and such, and had to navigate the building to get to class, prepare their plate, eat, and take notes during class with their limitations. This activity gives students a taste of how difficult everyday activities can be with a physical disability. As a follow-up, students will write a reflection paper on the experience and complete ADA assessments on various buildings on campus.

As part of an introductory assignment in their Communication Skills class, first semester PTA students were asked to communicate with some of their new classmates to meet up somewhere off campus to get to know each other a little better and take a picture. It looks like they understood the assignment!
