ACOM is the academic division of the Houston County Health Care Authority and is affiliated with Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama, a 420-bed regional medical center. Southeast Health serves more than 600,000 residents in a 75-mile radius and has more than 2500 employees and an active medical staff of 300.

It is with heavy hearts that the ACOM family mourns the loss of Ryan Davalos, a second-year medical student and cherished member of our community.

Ryan’s presence touched the lives of his classmates, faculty, staff and all who had the privilege of knowing him. As our community gathered to remember and honor his life, we reflected on the friendships he formed, the memories he leaves behind and the impact he made during his time at ACOM.

Ryan will be deeply missed by his classmates, friends and the entire ACOM family. We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

May we continue to honor Ryan’s memory by carrying forward the kindness, friendship and sense of community that connected him to so many.

👏 Congratulations to the recipients of the 2026 Walter Scott Foundation ACOM Scholarship: Joseph Abdelmalek, Thomas Creech, Melody Halford, Corrine Hickman, Amanda Kettman, Emilee Middleton, Ian Perdue, and Jenna Stremmel!

Through the generosity of the Walter Scott Foundation, each student received a $5,000 scholarship to support their medical education and future service to patients and communities. We are honored to celebrate these exceptional students and we are thankful for the generosity of the Walter Scott Foundation and the ongoing support of the Southeast Health Foundation.
