Our second week of Wolf Pup Camp ends tomorrow, and we are working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year! Today, in Ms. Davis's class, students were focusing on i with the silent e.
First, students reviewed the vowel i and that when e is at the end of a word, it is silent and makes the i long. (If you don't know what that means, ask your student!)
Then, students identified words with i and the silent e, read words, spelled words, and wrote words containing i with the silent e.
Because practice makes perfect, students then progressed to reading and writing sentences including spelling the words by themselves. They had to be sure to begin sentences with capital letters and end sentences with correct punctuation.
After that, they read paragraphs together, and they read with expression and excitement when sentences ended in an exclamation mark!
This lesson also included vocabulary words like twine and

Wolf Pup Camp is in full swing, and we are having FUN while learning! Today, in Mrs. Phillips' class, students were reviewing place value. With hands-on, collaborative learning, students used base ten units, base ten rods, base ten flats, and place value charts to model place value word problems.

✨ Summer learning in full swing! ✨
Our teachers have officially completed two out of the four days of Carnegie K-2 Math Professional Development this summer, and what an amazing learning experience it has been so far! 📚➕💡
Our math coach, Ms. Lawson, was excited to invite several dedicated teachers to spend part of their summer break growing together as math educators. Representing 1st grade are Mrs. Robinson and Ms. Godwin, and representing 2nd grade are Ms. Curtis, Ms. Brutley, and Ms. Harris! 🍎❤️
Throughout the training, teachers have explored meaningful ways to build conceptual understanding in mathematics, helping students develop deeper thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence in math. From hands-on centers to rich mathematical discussions, this PD has been filled with valuable learning, collaboration, and excitement! 🎉✏️
We are so proud of these teachers for investing their time and energy into becoming even stronger educators for our students! We can’t wait to see these amazing ideas come to life in the classroom this school year!

Today, we celebrate the end of an era! Our small but mighty head custodian, Ms. Denise, is retiring. She is one of the hardest workers with a can do spirit and can go head to head with any 6’4” 200 pound male any day of the week! It is hard to imagine Hidden Lake without Ms. Denise! We wish her a glorious retirement full of REST and RELAXATION and time spent with her feet up simply enjoying her favorite things! You deserve it, Ms. Denise! Thank you for your years of selfless hard work and service to Hidden Lake Primary School and Dothan City Schools.
