Welcome to the Wolfpack, Dr. Nina Williams! The Dothan City Schools Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Nina Williams as Executive Director of Schools during its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 18.
Dr. Williams brings more than 20 years of experience in dedication, spanning school and district administration, instructional coaching, higher education, and federal program evaluation. She most recently served as principal of Bear Exploration Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology in Montgomery, AL. There, she led efforts that resulted in a state report card score of 99, increased student proficiency in reading and mathematics, and earned the school state and national recognition. Under her leadership, Bear Exploration Center was recognized as a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School, a nationally certified magnet school and one of Alabama’s Top 25 schools.
Dr. Williams previously served as assistant principal and director of curriculum and instruction for Quitman County Schools in Georgia, as well as an academic coach, elementary dean, and assistant principal. She also taught graduate-level education courses at Georgia Southwestern State University.
She earned a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Leadership from Columbus State University, a Master of Science in Instructional Leadership, Administration and Supervision from Troy University, a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education from Troy University and a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Auburn University at Montgomery. She also completed the Howard University Superintendent Academy Program.
“Dr. Williams brings a proven record of strengthening instructional systems, supporting educators and improving outcomes for students,” Dothan City Schools Superintendent Dr. Garrick Askew said. “Her experience, leadership, and commitment to excellence will serve as valuable resources for our principals and staff. We are excited to welcome Dr. Williams to DCS and look forward to the impact she will have in the system.”

Dr. WIlliams’ first day at Dothan City Schools is September 8th.

A big day for some of our smallest students! 🎒🍎 Today, DCS Head Start & Preschool officially kicked off their first day of school! We’re excited for a year filled with learning, laughter and lots of new adventures! 💙

♻️ Celebrating student leadership at Selma Street Elementary School! Tonight, the Dothan City Board of Education recognized Selma Street for receiving a $1,000 Spark Good Local Grant from Sam’s Club of Dothan in support of the school’s “Let’s Recycle, Crew” initiative.
Now in its fourth year, the student-led program empowers fourth and fifth graders to take pride in their campus while building leadership skills and lifelong sustainable habits. The grant will provide collection and storage supplies, safety equipment, and cleanup gear to help students continue making a lasting impact at their school and in their community.
Principal Dionne Blair accepted the recognition on behalf of Selma Street. Congratulations to the entire “Let’s Recycle, Crew!” 💙🐺

The classrooms are ready, and so are they! 🎒✨ DCS Head Start & Preschool welcomed students and families at today’s Open House. Tomorrow marks the first day of school for our DCS Head Start & Preschool students and we can’t wait for an exciting year ahead!🍎💙

SSAC Applications are NOW OPEN! 🐺📣 Dothan City Schools students in grades 7–12 are invited to apply for the 2026–2027 Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council!
In partnership with Fearless Leadership Academy, selected students will take part in a year-long leadership development experience while having the opportunity to share ideas, provide feedback, and have a voice in the future of Dothan City Schools.
Interested 7-12 grade students can visit Dothan.K12.AL.US, select ‘Our District’, then ‘Superintendent”, then select ‘Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC)’ to learn more and download the application packet.
