Region 1 and the Cross Keys HS cluster held the official ribbon cutting for the newly opened John R. Lewis ES on Friday, October 4, 2019. Congressman Lewis was moved to tears by the honor and by the kids. One pictured at the podium with John Lewis was encouraged to work hard, to keep the faith, and he could even be President of the United States. The event was hosted by the school's first principal, Dr. LaShawn McMillan. Dr. McMillan formerly served at Ashford Park ES, Arabia Mtn HS, and Cross Keys HS.

Redistricting 09/18/2019

The DeKalb County School District is working to upgrade aging school facilities and expand school district capacity in our area to accommodate a rapidly growing student population. Expansion is occurring through both expansion of current school buildings, and the construction of new schools. There will be a 3-part public input process this fall for 3 elementary schools in Region 1 and Region 2. Visit www.dekalbschoolsga.org/redistricting for more information and an overview of this process.

Austin Elementary School: All 3 meetings will be held at Dunwoody High School 7-8:30 p.m. 9/26, 10/23, 11/20.

Cross Keys North Elementary School: All 3 meetings will be held at Chamblee Charter High School 7-8:30 p.m. 9/25, 10/16, 11/19.

Pleasantdale Elementary School: All 3 meetings will be held at Lakeside High School 7-8:30 p.m. 9/24, 10/15, 11/18.

These are big steps forward in upgrading and expanding school facilities! Come out to the meetings if you’re interested in the future boundaries of these 3 elementary schools.

Tapestry 12th grade student Matthew Hall was selected as the winner of the Artist Spotlight Songwriter and Producer contest. After being nominated by Tapestry Music Teacher Matt Miller, Matthew was selected from among a very competitive group of Atlanta-area high school students who write songs and produce beats. Matthew has composed music in various styles for the past few years and was a student in Mr. Miller's music technology class when he won the contest. The prize for winning the contest included an 8-hour studio session with famed producer OG Parker, who has worked with the likes of Chris Brown and Migos, and a consultation with a national music executive. Congratulations Matthew!!!

E-SPLOST "GO" Bond Public Meetings 08/25/2019

Neighbors! Many of our area school buildings are very old, and in need of repair. Many should ideally (and eventually) be re-built, given their age. The DeKalb County School District is continuing to work on multi-year plans to upgrade facilities, and expand capacity to meet the needs of a growing student population across North DeKalb.

DCSD will host a series of 5 Aug-Sept events to seek input on options to address the County’s near-term buildings and facilities budget (funded via E-SPLOST).

Please come out for these! Our entire community has a stake in the future of our local public school buildings.

Community members and parents can attend any of these meetings.
