LITERARY LENS FRIDAY TEACHING MOMENT
This is usually a writing activity that comes easily to students once they sit in a moment for a minute. Asking the student about sight, sound, smell, and touch are tools that enable quiet moments in a narrative to become a picture painted with words.
Here’s the thing: It can’t be wrong. It is the picture the student creates. Delight in the picture and discuss the picture brought to your mind by the student’s words.

The best writers have confidence in their writing and that is the goal of writing activities.

MAP MYSTERY THURSDAY ANSWER AND TEACHING MOMENT.

My seven-year-old grandson and I worked through today's map mystery together, and I filmed it for today's story.

Doing these challenges with your student can naturally lead to more discussion, which leads to more exploration and discovery. In our Facebook story, we share how discussion lead us to comparing Victoria Falls with the Nile River, something with which Avery was already familiar.

If for no other reason, do geography with your student to develop the natural curiosity that leads to a love of learning. Young people tend to connect with the discovery that comes easily with geography.
