Congratulations once again to the Business and Finance Dept. for earning the highest financial accountability ratings possible with a score of 100 or A+. In recognition for this honor, Superintendent Dr. Angela Dominguez presented Mr. Alfonso Perez, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance with a plaque at this morning's Cabinet meeting. Congratulations to Mr. Perez and his dedicated and hardworking staff for a job well done.

For the first time in Donna ISD history, a female officer has been named Sergeant within the Donna ISD Police Dept. DISD Police Chief Domingo Aguirre made the announcement at this morning's Cabinet meeting and officially presented Sgt. Mary Morales with her police badge. Sgt. Morales, began her law enforcement career as a dispatcher with the City of Mercedes and subsequently became a Police Officer and Juvenile Investigator. From there, she joined Donna ISD where she served in different capacities including School Resource Officer, District Investigator, Truancy Officer, and Criminal Justice Teacher at DHS. In all, she has twenty-three years of law enforcement experience. Congratulations Sgt. Morales!

The sounds of strumming guitars and guitarron were in the air as we caught up with Instructor Berenice Gonzalez and the beginners Mariachi class at Donna North High School. Each year, talented instructors share their love of music with eager students. We look forward to hearing the great music coming from our very own Mariach students.
Donna ISD's Head Start Program is taking Donna ISD by storm! With its implementation at four locations, including the Singleterry and Salinas Elementary campuses, as well as the Donna 1 and Donna 2 Head Start Centers, young minds are being ignited for the journey of a lifetime. Led by the passionate teacher, Rosa Maria Perez, each day in the classroom is a thrilling adventure filled with captivating activities that pave the way for a successful transition to Kindergarten.

Congratulations to Donna ISD Bus Driver Jazmine Yglesias for winning this 55 inch TV during a drawing recently. The TV was donated by the Texas State Teachers Association as a door prize at our Fall Convocation. It was one of several prizes donated by local businesses and organizations in support of education and our hard working employees.

Elementary dyslexia classrooms are ready to receive students and close the reading gap among struggling readers. Our Multisensory Teaching Approach (MTA) dyslexia program follows specific and timely modules intended to address the reading needs of students with dyslexia. Timely lessons and visuals are a must!

Donna ISD families gathered for the district’s first School Safety Expo/Vigil at Donna North High School last night. Leading in prayer in support of students, teachers, administration and staff was Pastor Ivan De Leon from Iglesia Vino Nuevo and other local pastors. Among the topics discussed were school safety measures, mental health and drug awareness and services available through the nonprofit organization Buckner International.
During our Donna ISD Board meeting earlier this week, our board members were presented with a video highlighting our Fall Convocation where more than 2,200 employees from Donna ISD gathered to officially kick off the new school year. Here's a glimpse of our fun, inspiring and informative event which included Superintendent Dr. Angela Dominguez's presentation on our district's 5 strategic goals.

The Donna North Mighty Chiefs Marching Band is preparing for another exciting season of marching and filling the air with great music. Under the direction of Mr. Adrian Robledo, the band is sounding great. Here are the band students preparing to march on Friday nights beginning this week as the DNHS Chiefs take on the Jaguars. Every teacher at the elementary level including Life Skills teachers have received approximately 500 books and magazines along with library furniture for their classroom. In addition, every Reading Language Arts teacher including Life Skills teachers at the middle school level have received approximately 350 books and magazines along with classroom library furniture. Congratulations to our Mighty Chief Junior Varsity Boys Cross Country team for winning the Mission High School Invitational Meet this morning. Antonio Briones 1st place, Javier Gomez 6th place, Ricardo Rodriguez 7th place, Jose Lopez 12th place, Diego Barrueta 13th place, Jobanny Bravo 14th place and Jesus Mares 18th place. What an outstanding performance by our cross country program as our Chiefs won both the varsity and junior varsity divisions this morning! Chief Nation and Donna ISD are proud of you!

Congratulations to our MIGHTY CHIEF CROSS COUNTRY TEAM for winning first place at the Mission High School Invitational Meet this morning. The team scored 41 points and 5 of our Chiefs placed in the top 20! The Texas Education Agency has announced preliminary financial accountability ratings for independent school districts and charters across the state that pertains to the 2021-2022 school year. Donna ISD is excited to announce that we once again earned the highest preliminary rating possible with a score of 100 or A+. Shout out to former Donna High School students Taylor Seaver and Larissa Gonzales and Social Studies Teacher Juan Carmona for being featured on KRGV Channel 5 News this past weekend. Their interview was part of a segment on their art project which aims to showcase and preserve Rio Grande Valley history.
Art project aims to showcase and preserve Rio Grande Valley history As a student at Donna High School, Taylor Seaver helped start a group with her teacher to make local history more accessible.
A group of Donna North High School 11th graders had the opportunity to participate in a Summer Bridge Program that allowed them to intern at healthcare facilities and a local pharmacy. This video highlights their time spent learning how the New Life Assisted Living Center in Donna operates. This opportunity will help pave the way for students to successfully receive industry-based certifications that will give them the competitive edge they need to be hired and succeed in the workforce. We're thrilled to offer these opportunities to our students and believe they will benefit greatly from industry exposure.
