Donna ISD is excited to announce that we've been awarded the Bullet-Resistant Shield Grant in the amount of $205,581.24. The money will be used to purchase rifle rated level III ballistic shields for all district police officers. These type of ballistic shields are used by law enforcement agencies to protect their officers during tactical operations where officers have little or no cover.

Donna ISD would like to wish a Happy Birthday to our Police Department's K-9 officer. Ivan turned 10 years old yesterday. He spent his birthday at home with his family and handler Corporal Robert Rodriguez who treated him with his favorite meal, a six piece chicken nugget Happy Meal with fries. Corporal Rodriguez and K-9 officer Ivan have been partners for the last five years. They are responsible for hundreds of K-9 searches throughout the district and city. Ivan has also been involved in special operations with the city and the DEA and has been responsible for dozens of cases of recovered narcotics. The pair will continue to do their part in the fight against drugs in our schools.

CONGRATULATIONS to these DHS Art students for their outstanding performance at the Regional Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) this past Sat. in McAllen. These talented students competed in face-to-face competition for the first time since 2019 and they did an amazing job bringing home a total of 36 medals and the highest 4 rating. Three students also received Area medals and have advanced to the state level. Good luck to Lizette Cedillo, Miah Garces, Kennedy Aranda when they compete at San Marcos High School in April.

Reminder of our COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic to be held today, Wednesday, March 8th at Adame Elementary from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. 1st and 2nd doses and boosters will be available. $50 gift cards will be given for 1st and 2nd doses.

Donna ISD directors were invited by the organization Arise Adelante to give an overview of the different programs and services we offer to students of the district. The meeting was held in Alamo and well attended by members of Arise Las Milpas, Hargill, South Tower and Colonia Muniz. These efforts are part of Donna ISD's Goal 1 & 2, which focuses on student success and family and community engagement.

We are thrilled and look forward to building an alumni network through this new association and finding ways for you to engage and support your alma mater. Donna ISD is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $100,000 Early College High School grant. This grant will give our students the opportunity to gain college credits while they're still in high school. With the support of this grant, we'll be providing targeted supports for our historically underserved students through rigorous instruction and accelerated postsecondary courses - so they can reach their full potential and succeed in college-level coursework, at no cost to them.

Donna ISD is excited to announce that we've been awarded the Technology Lending Grant in the amount of $225,000 from the Texas Education Agency's Learning Acceleration Support Opportunities (LASO) program. With this grant, we'll be able to provide students with the necessary equipment to access and use digital instructional materials and ensure that no one is left behind in the digital age. We've been working hard to bridge the digital divide and make sure everyone has access to technology - and this grant is a big step forward!
Donna ISD's Social Workers are being treated to lunch today in observance of National School Social Work Week. We thank our school social workers for the vital work they do to support our students' social and emotional well-being and academic success.

CONGRATULATIONS to these DNHS Art students for their outstanding performance at the Regional Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) this past Sat. in McAllen. The students scored very well on their individual pieces and represented DNHS with pride, Sophomore Robert Resendez' sculpture "Light In The Path Of Darkness" (pictured) was selected to advance to state finals to be held in San Marcos April 28th-29th, VASE is based on very rigorous judging from a team of art judges who come from all over South Texas. Donna ISD is very proud of our students.
