Session Description: In this session each group will apply their academic knowledge of atomic structure and the periodic table and share their comprehension through by creating a science apron for the ScienceWear Research Lab featuring an element from the Periodic Table. To succeed in the science world, your group must follow the guidelines that are provided and make their Atomic Attire apron spectacular. All “Atomic Attire” will be modeled on the Atomic Runway in front of the paparazzi cameras. *All Atomic Attire completed in this session will be given away as door prizes!

UTRGV is happy to announce that their next ANCIENT LANDSCAPES OF SOUTH TEXAS 6-hour professional development (workshop) will be a “Field Lesson” to visit several sites on our trail on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 8:30am-3:30pm. An additional session is scheduled for Friday, June 16th.
This Field Lesson will be held (in-person) via air-conditioned bus. They will start the day at the ESCNE building at the HEB Planetarium and then board the bus(es) for the field trip. Space is limited and once the sessions are full, we will have to close registration.

Are you an upcoming junior/senior undergraduate student or a recent graduate who will be entering graduate school in the fall of 2023? NASA’s Space Life Sciences Training Program (SLSTP) is a challenging 10-week experience at NASA’s Ames Research Center that pairs students with NASA scientists and engineers working on cutting-edge bioscience research.
SLSTP Summer 2023 will include space biology-related projects ranging from microbial communities in microgravity to yeast-based biosensors for a lunar surface mission. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years old in high academic standing (GPA of 3.2 or higher).

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Juan Madrid as our distinguished guest presenter for this meeting. Dr. Madrid is a leading expert in observational and theoretical astronomy and currently serves as a professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
Dr. Madrid's research focuses on the fascinating field of globular clusters, which he investigates through the use of observations obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope. In addition, he employs advanced NBODY simulations that run on Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) to recreate the dynamical evolution of globular clusters.
Beyond his work on globular clusters, Dr. Madrid has also conducted research on a diverse range of topics, including active galactic nuclei (AGN) jets, radio astronomy, galaxy clusters, and cataclysmic variables. His impressive body of observational work has been conducted with a variety of world-class instruments, including the Hubble Space Telescope, Gemini, Chandra, and the Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder.

Texas High School Aerospace Scholars is an authentic STEM learning experience for Texas high school juniors to engage with NASA’s missions and become the next generation of explorers. HAS is a year-long commitment for Texas high school juniors which starts in the fall with a four-month online learning experience related to space exploration, Earth science, technology, and aeronautics. Highest achieving students receive an invitation to a five-day gamified virtual summer experience (Moonshot) mentored by NASA scientists and engineers. During the virtual summer experience, students work in teams to plan an Artemis-themed mission to the Moon and Mars. Top teams from the virtual summer experience are invited to attend a two-day residential experience at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. HAS is an authentic learning experience for Texas high school juniors to engage with NASA’s missions and become the next generation of explorers.
