Our 5th and 6th grade STEM students took on the ultimate Engineering Design Process challenge this week! 🌊👷‍♂️👷‍♀️

Their mission? Design and build a functional flotation device to save our class figurine! Students brainstormed, sketched, built prototypes, and tested their designs in real-time. I love seeing these young innovators collaborate, problem-solve, and think like real engineers. 🚀💡

Kindergarten and preschool students received new tricycles for the playground! We will have a total of 6 tricycles for these students. Today the preschoolers tried them out. Thanks to the administration for getting us some more new playground equipment!

The KG-third graders had a special guest come and visit today.

Mrs. Poling shared her knowledge and expertise of the Monarch butterfly. Students were able to learn about the lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly and why they are important. Mrs. Poling even brought in caterpillars and chrysalis's for the students to observe the lifecycle in action! The third graders were even luckily enough to see butterflies emerge as Mrs. Poling was talking about them!

Time and location change for the September Board Meeting.
The September Hardin Northern Local School Board of Education meeting will now be on Tuesday September 22 at 6:00PM in the makerspace/high school library room.

Step aside, professional architects—our 2nd and 3rd graders are officially Paper Engineers! 📐✂️

This week, our students took on an awesome design challenge: creating standing 3-D Name Tags using nothing but flat sheets of paper! 📄✨

Talk about a lesson in structural engineering! The challenge? Each letter had to stand completely on its own, which meant students had to figure out how to design and fold custom "tabs" at the bottom of every single letter to keep them upright. 🏗️💡

It was incredible to watch them go through the Engineering Design Process—measuring, cutting, folding, and troubleshooting when a letter wanted to tip over. They learned firsthand how a simple fold can turn a flimsy piece of paper into a strong, stable 3D structure! 🧠🎨
