On Saturday, April 18th, members of the DCHS JROTC Air Force class set out and mastered the “Bataan Memorial Death March” —a 14 mile ruck around Dodge City. They started at 7am and finished at High Noon. A job well done and a merit badge well deserved. This march was in honor of the 65,000+ Americans and Filipino prisoners of war who suffered during the 1912 Bataan Death March. We profoundly thank all who have served and all who continue to serve. 💚🖤🤎🇺🇸

Our high school students will be TRAVELING our great nation this summer through the AMERICAN EXCHANGE PROJECT!! The destinations include: Connecticut, South Carolina, Maine, New York, North Carolina, California, Texas, Tennessee, Maryland, and Washington D.C.

American Exchange Project gives graduated high school seniors the chance to participate in a unique adventure: The summer after graduating, they’ll spend one week discovering a new American town and a second week rediscovering their own. All of the essentials for both weeks—meals, flights, activities, lodging, transportation—are covered in full.

Our program was founded in 2019 as a nonpartisan solution to growing divisions in our country. We have designed these transformative and immersive experiences to create lasting connections between Americans from different backgrounds, foster deeper empathy among neighbors, and give young adults the chance to see themselves and their country in new ways.

Pratt Community College came to DCHS today to share information about their Line Program, which is perfect for people who want to work outside, work with their hands, help people and community, and make good money with a job that will always be needed. With PCC, after just two semesters, students start working in the field and finish their degree while getting paid! The best news for DCHS students is that they don’t even have to leave Dodge City because PCC has partnered with Dodge City Community College in bringing the Lineman Program to DC!

Last week DCHS students participated in REALITY-U, a simulation of real life. Students were given a starting monthly allowance (income based off GPA and career interest), and a credit score (based off their attendance, participation, completion of homework). Some students were randomly paired up as spouses and some students were assigned CRYING robotic babies. As students moved through the various Real World stations (childcare, housing, utilities, entertainment, etc.), they were faced with life altering decisions such as: can I afford the car insurance, how often can I afford eating out, what can we cut down on, how much should I save for a vacation or higher education. Some students were met with hardships such as a dental visits or car repairs; some students ended up needing to take on another parttime job. What a valuable learning experience!! Students were highly engaged throughout the morning and after everyone completed the final station-RETIREMENT, one could hear the various comments from students:

“I’m just getting started out, I can make more money later as my skills improve.”

“I should have bought a cheaper car.”

“Utilities are so expensive!”

“I’d have more money left, but I’m glad I gave to the church.”

“My parents are AMAZING!”

Thank you to the Reality-U directors, Ms. Kane, and all local business men and women for donating their time to help with the stations. Everyone left with an ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE 😁
