Kindergarten students recently read a book called “Beautiful Oops”, where we learned that we can turn our mistakes into something beautiful and creative! Students worked with a partner to make “scribble monsters”. The had so much fun with this activity and discovered they were pretty good artists!

Our PreK teachers have been patiently waiting for their students to enter the building! They have been having SO MUCH fun this morning with the first group of kiddos and can't wait to have the other half tomorrow!

Thank you Mrs. Deborah Flippin and Mrs. Hannah Coble for their dedication to our smallest bluebirds! We are thankful to have you at CES!

We are excited to welcome our Pre-K students to campus this week! Half of our Pre-K students will begin on Wednesday, the other half will begin on Thursday, and all of our Pre-K students will be with us on Friday. As our newest Bluebirds begin riding buses this week, please be mindful that bus pick-up and drop-off times may vary slightly as we adjust to the additional stops.

As a reminder, bus safety is very important. Please talk with your child about remaining seated and buckled at all times while the bus is moving. Following these expectations helps us ensure a safe ride to and from school for all of our Bluebirds.

Our third-grade students will take the Beginning-of-Grade Reading Assessment on Wednesday. Please help your child do their best by making sure they get plenty of rest Tuesday night and arrive at school on time Wednesday morning.

SAVE Promise Club applications are due to Mrs. Cannon on Monday.

Looking ahead, there will be a Scout Recruitment Meeting on Monday, August 31, at 5:30 p.m. in the Copeland cafeteria.

We are looking forward to another wonderful week of learning and growing together at Copeland. As always, thank you for your continued support of our Bluebirds.

¡Estamos emocionados de dar la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes de Pre-K al campus esta semana! La mitad de nuestros estudiantes de Pre-K comenzarán el miércoles, la otra mitad comenzará el jueves, y todos nuestros estudiantes de Pre-K estarán con nosotros el viernes. PTO Apparel order forms are coming home TODAY, so don't forget to check backpacks this afternoon!!

All adult shirts and youth short sleeve and hoodies are a charcoal gray color. Youth long sleeve and youth crewnecks are black only.

Parents have reached out about hats so PTO included hats too! These are great hats so don't miss out!

All order forms and money must be turned in by September 1st!

Just in case you missed the phone call last night!

Thank you for helping make our first week of school such a wonderful success! We are grateful for your support and partnership.

Today, our students successfully practiced bus evacuation, fire, tornado, and lockdown drills as part of our commitment to keeping safety a top priority. We encourage you to talk with your child about these practice drills and the importance of being prepared and following directions during an emergency.

Thank you for helping us keep our Bluebirds safe. We look forward to another wonderful week together!

¡Gracias por ayudarnos a que nuestra primera semana de clases fuera todo un éxito! Estamos muy agradecidos por su apoyo y colaboración.

Hoy, nuestros estudiantes practicaron con éxito simulacros de evacuación del autobús, incendio, tornado y confinamiento de seguridad como parte de nuestro compromiso de mantener la seguridad como una de nuestras principales prioridades. Les animamos a hablar con sus hijos sobre estos simulacros y sobre la importancia de estar preparados y seguir las instrucciones durante una emergencia.

We would like to congratulate Mrs. Christy Beverly and Mrs. Tracie Whitaker for being 2026 Creative Innovation Mini- Grant winners! We would also like to thank the Surry County Schools Educational Foundation for selecting and providing the funds for these projects!

Mrs. Beverly received a grant to purchase more robots for her makerspace classroom to allow students with more hands-on opportunities with coding!

Mrs. Beverly says, "I am so excited to have received funding from Surry County Schools Education Foundation to purchase 2 Sphero BOLT robots, 2 Indi robots, and a code mat for Copeland Elementary! These robots will provide our students with hands-on opportunities to explore coding, robotics, problem-solving, and computational thinking. Students will use the robots during Computer and Makerspace classes to complete engaging STEM challenges that build creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, and perseverance. This grant will help us continue building an exciting STEM/Makerpace program where students can learn, create, explore, and discover through technology!"

Mrs. Whitaker received a grant that will allow our entire school to partcipate in a One Book, One School event which will allow multiple literacy connections in all of their classrooms!

Mrs. Whitaker says, "Our One Book, One School initiative will create an engaging, school-wide literacy experience that connects reading with writing, STEM, mathematics, social studies, the arts, technology, and social-emotional learning. Through a shared book experience, students, families, teachers, and community members will participate in interactive activities that strengthen literacy and foster a love of reading. Daily challenges, interactive read-alouds, cross-curricular lessons, and hands-on STEM activities will encourage students to build vocabulary, improve comprehension, strengthen writing skills, and develop critical thinking. The project will also promote meaningful conversations about kindness, friendship, empathy, perseverance, and character. By extending learning beyond the classroom and involving families and the community, this initiative will increase student engagement, build a positive reading culture, and inspire students to become confident, enthusiastic lifelong readers."

We are so excited for both of these projects to come to life this school year! We would like to thank both of these ladies for all of their hard work and dedication to our Bluebirds!

Weekly Updates and Reminders...

Thank you for an awesome start to our school year! We have loved having our Bluebirds back in the building.

All transportation changes must be received in writing by 2:00 p.m. each day.

Monday morning, students will participate in our fire, tornado, lockdown, and bus evacuation safety drills. These drills help our students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency.

As we begin the year, we also want to remind families about the importance of bus safety. Please talk with your child about remaining seated with their seat belt buckled for the entire bus ride.

All students receive free breakfast and lunch at school this year. Parents are welcome to come eat lunch with their child; however, adult meals must be paid for with cash or check and cannot be charged to your child's lunch account.

Finally, PTO apparel order forms were sent home on Friday. All order forms and money are due by September 1.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to another great week with our Bluebirds!

¡Gracias por un comienzo increíble para nuestro año escolar! Nos ha encantado tener a nuestros Bluebirds de vuelta en el edificio.

Como recordatorio, todos los cambios de transporte deben recibirse por escrito antes de las 2:00 p. m. de cada día.

Mañana por la mañana, los estudiantes participarán en nuestros simulacros de seguridad contra incendios, tornados, confinamientos y evacuaciones de autobuses. Estos ejercicios ayudan a nuestros estudiantes y personal a saber qué hacer en caso de emergencia.

Al comenzar el año, también queremos recordar a las familias la importancia de la seguridad de los autobuses. Por favor, hable con su hijo sobre permanecer sentado con el cinturón de seguridad abrochado durante todo el viaje en autobús.
