• 8th grade students and their siblings will be picked up in the bus lot.

🟣🟦 Our 8th graders put their math skills to work today with a hands-on activity using Cheez-Its! Students collaborated in teams to build square arrays, discover perfect squares, and explore the meaning of square roots. By arranging the crackers into equal rows and columns, they were able to see how square roots help us find the side length of a perfect square.

Learning is always more exciting when students can see and touch the math they are studying! Great teamwork, problem-solving, and mathematical thinking were on display throughout the lesson. 🟦🟣

Sixth graders in Ms Ray’s Design & Modeling PLTW class have designed an ankle-foot orthosis and are building a prototype! They are so creative and enjoy working together on this project. Go Hornets!

| As we begin a new school year, we want our community to know about the McKinney-Vento Program, which supports students experiencing homelessness.

Students may qualify if they are doubled up with others, living in motels or campgrounds, staying in cars or other inadequate settings, or meet certain criteria as migratory students.

If you have a concern about a student’s living situation, please reach out to their school social worker or our SCS Homeless Liaison, Mrs. Paris Green. You do not have to determine eligibility; just share the concern so we can help.

Last year, Surry County Schools identified 83 students experiencing homelessness, and we have already identified 50 students this school year. Your awareness and willingness to reach out can make a difference.

Good Evening, Hornets. This is your principal, Matt Scott, calling with this week's updates.

Yearbooks are now on sale! They are $40 unless you want to personalize it; then it would be $55. Students received an order form in their homeroom this week. Information for online sales is also on our page. To order a yearbook, return the order form along with payment to your student's homeroom teacher. Cash or check (made to Central Middle School) are the only acceptable methods of payment at school. The price will increase at the end of September, so order yours soon.

If you haven't already, please make sure to complete your annual update for Infinite Campus. Instructions are linked in this message and available on our district website.

The best way to stay informed about school activities is by regularly checking our page and school website. Fall sports begin games this week. Families of student-athletes need to stay up to date by utilizing the SportsYou app. Instructions for signing up for athletic updates through the SportsYou app can be found on both the page and the school website.

HOSA is for students interested in a career in healthcare or an interest in “all things medical" The HOSA Chapter at Central Middle School will be holding an interest meeting on Thursday, 08/27/26 after school from 3:15-4:30. We would love for your student to come and check us out.
