ArchForKids-architecture for children ArchForKids provides young people with dynamic, hands-on learning experiences grounded in architecture, engineering, urban planning and design

Young designers brainstorm, sketch, estimate, design, calculate and construct. They create parks and dream houses. They go on I Spy architecture walks, build model skyscrapers and bridges, and more. They apply academic concepts to real world situations. Young people gain a deeper understanding – and appreciation – of their own communities and the wider world. For schools, ArchForKids provides STEAM programs that enrich curriculum, both during the school day and afterschool hours. For museums, libraries and community centers, we lead engaging workshops that explore the built environment. For families and homeschoolers, we offer workshops and mentoring on an “on demand’ basis. In addition, ArchForKids provides creative birthday parties – we call them Building Parties. ArchForKids educators can come to your location in the NYC area, or we can provide virtual programming to locations around the world. Whatever your educational needs, ArchForKids has something for you!

SEO Scholars Career Exploration Week | Day 2 🌎🏡

Designing a house starts with understanding who will live there and where it will be built.

On Day 2, our scholars began working in teams to brainstorm, sketch, and develop their ideas for a residential architecture project based on a real-world style client brief.

Each team received a brief inspired by a different region of the world: Japan, Scandinavia, Mexico, Peru, or Morocco. Their challenge was to design a home that responded to their client's needs while incorporating architectural ideas from the region and exploring sustainable strategies suited to its climate and environment.

From courtyards and natural ventilation to traditional materials, shade, water conservation, and connections to the outdoors, scholars began asking an important architectural question: How can the place where we live influence the way we design our homes?

SEO Scholars Career Exploration Week | Day 1

For the 4th year, ArchForKids had the opportunity to support SEO Scholars - New York City during their Career Exploration Week, a 5-day program introducing rising 10th grade scholars to the field of architecture through hands-on learning, design, and model making.

This year, scholars explored global residential architecture and sustainable design, considering how architects can create homes that respond to the people who live in them, the climate, culture, and environment around them.

Day 1 focused on the foundations: What is architecture? What kinds of careers and specialties exist within the field? And how do architects turn ideas and drawings into physical spaces?

Scholars put those ideas into practice through activities exploring scale, architectural drawing, and transforming 2D plans into 3D models—setting the stage for the design challenge ahead.

Tarrytown Arts Camp 2026.

Did you know that Ancient Persians excelled at ingenious engineering? They built ancient underground refrigerators known as yakhchals and had a form of air conditioning using windcatchers (or badgirs).

Our summer camp designers learned all about Persian architecture and then built their own version of important structures in a 5 day summer program by Tarrytown Arts Camp.

The week culminated in a showcase for the other campers and families. Check out some of their completed projects - we couldn't be more proud of how they turned out!

Who will use this space? What activities will happen there? What makes someone feel comfortable, inspired, or happy in a room?

In our Dream Room Design program, students become designers and problem-solvers as they create bedrooms tailored to their own interests and needs. From artistic retreats to activity-filled hangouts, each project reflects the unique personality of its designer.

This time of year gives us a chance to pause and reflect on the creativity, curiosity, and community that make our work so meaningful. We’re incredibly grateful for our students, families, educators, school partners, and supporters who bring energy and imagination to every program we run.

Whether this season is filled with celebration, quiet moments, or a mix of both, we hope it brings warmth, inspiration, and time to recharge. Thank you for being part of our ArchForKids community and for supporting hands-on, project-based learning all year long.

We are thankful for everyone who supports us throughout the year! From the young designers who motivate everything we do, to the teachers who welcome us into their classroom, to the librarians who bring our programs to their communities, to the parents who celebrate their child's projects and continue to engage with us here on social medias and by email, to the volunteer architects that help support our special programs to every partner we've been fortunate enough to work with this past year and to all of you following along and supporting us in the digital world of social media.

Each day this week, we’re sharing something our team is grateful for.

Day 3 | We are thankful for our amazing ArchForKids team!

Our educators make every program possible. From helping plan, revise, and tailor our curriculum to working hands-on with students in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and beyond, they are the backbone of everything we do.

Their creativity, patience, and passion for project-based learning turn ideas into meaningful experiences. They guide students as they build, experiment, problem-solve, and discover the joy of architecture and design through doing. Whether they’re supporting a child’s first model, encouraging teamwork, or adapting lessons on the fly to meet students where they are, our educators bring learning to life every single day.

Each day this week, we’re sharing something our team is grateful for.

Day 2 | We are thankful for the creativity and imagination of our students. From pre-k to high school, they all inspire us everyday with their creative approach to problem solving, unique design ideas and the way they take our lessons and projects and build something entirely creative and unique. From structures inspired by the trumpet, to robot shaped homes, to buildings designed to represent a virtue, to unique sun-shade facades and more!

Whether it's a unique way of using the materials available, a creative use of shape, color or form, or an entirely unexpected interpretation of the topic we are pleasantly surprised and inspired by the results of every program we do. ArchForKids is thankful that the work we do sets the stage to allow our young designers' imagination and creativity to shine! ✨

Each day this week, we’re sharing something we’re thankful for at ArchForKids.

Day 1 - We’re grateful for our creative students, dedicated partners, curious communities, and every moment spent building, designing, and imagining together.
We are fortunate to have many different formats to connect with our students - from in-school residencies, library workshops, special design challenges and even virtual one-on-one series! This program diversity gives us the chance to explore the built world and project based learning in many different formats, depths, complexities and communities making every program unique and exciting.
