Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month through architecture and creativity!

Last year, young designers explored the history and design of traditional pagodas before building their own unique architectural models. We loved seeing the creativity, focus, and imagination each student brought to their designs. 🌸🏯

This time of year gives us a chance to pause and reflect on the creativity, curiosity, and community that make our work so meaningful. We’re incredibly grateful for our students, families, educators, school partners, and supporters who bring energy and imagination to every program we run.

Whether this season is filled with celebration, quiet moments, or a mix of both, we hope it brings warmth, inspiration, and time to recharge. Thank you for being part of our ArchForKids community and for supporting hands-on, project-based learning all year long.

We are thankful for everyone who supports us throughout the year! From the young designers who motivate everything we do, to the teachers who welcome us into their classroom, to the librarians who bring our programs to their communities, to the parents who celebrate their child's projects and continue to engage with us here on social medias and by email, to the volunteer architects that help support our special programs to every partner we've been fortunate enough to work with this past year and to all of you following along and supporting us in the digital world of social media.

Day 3 | We are thankful for our amazing ArchForKids team!

Our educators make every program possible. From helping plan, revise, and tailor our curriculum to working hands-on with students in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and beyond, they are the backbone of everything we do.

Their creativity, patience, and passion for project-based learning turn ideas into meaningful experiences. They guide students as they build, experiment, problem-solve, and discover the joy of architecture and design through doing. Whether they’re supporting a child’s first model, encouraging teamwork, or adapting lessons on the fly to meet students where they are, our educators bring learning to life every single day.

We are deeply grateful for their commitment to equity, curiosity, and hands-on learning. ArchForKids wouldn’t exist without this incredible team — thank you for inspiring our young designers, thinkers, and builders!

Each day this week, we’re sharing something our team is grateful for.

Day 2 | We are thankful for the creativity and imagination of our students. From pre-k to high school, they all inspire us everyday with their creative approach to problem solving, unique design ideas and the way they take our lessons and projects and build something entirely creative and unique. From structures inspired by the trumpet, to robot shaped homes, to buildings designed to represent a virtue, to unique sun-shade facades and more!

Whether it's a unique way of using the materials available, a creative use of shape, color or form, or an entirely unexpected interpretation of the topic we are pleasantly surprised and inspired by the results of every program we do. ArchForKids is thankful that the work we do sets the stage to allow our young designers' imagination and creativity to shine! ✨

Each day this week, we’re sharing something we’re thankful for at ArchForKids.

Day 1 - We’re grateful for our creative students, dedicated partners, curious communities, and every moment spent building, designing, and imagining together.
We are fortunate to have many different formats to connect with our students - from in-school residencies, library workshops, special design challenges and even virtual one-on-one series! This program diversity gives us the chance to explore the built world and project based learning in many different formats, depths, complexities and communities making every program unique and exciting.

Day 1 of our 5 day Introduction to Architecture program supporting

We started the week off learning about the basics of what architecture is, how to design for a community and which different subtopics there are in the field. Then scholars practiced reading a floorplan and learned how to convert a drawing using scale calculation before they broke into groups to start their main design project focused on designing and building models of structures to support a fictional community. We have 18 groups working on a wide variety of different structures - from hospital to a school, from apartment buildings to a church and a mosque to a museum and a train station and many many more!

🎶Building Rhythmville in Tarrytown, NY! 🎶

Last week we worked with summer camp students at and challenged them to create architectural designs based on the theme Rhythm and inspired by different musical instruments - from glass harmonica to acoustic guitars and more!

Sustainable Skyscrapers at Yonkers Public Library

We had a great time talking about solar panels, green roofs, wind turbines and other types of sustainable architectural practices with young designers in Yonkers. During the workshop they also built their own sustainable skyscraper designs and we are very impressed with the results!

We challenged young designers at Yonkers Public Library to design and build models of sustainable skyscrapers—and the results were incredible. From solar panels to rooftop gardens, these future city builders are thinking big and building green.
