July Alumni Spotlight 🌟: Brian Garza

For our alumni spotlight this month, we had the opportunity to speak with Brian Garza. Brian graduated from Sauk Valley Community College in 1989 with an Associate in Science degree before continuing his education at Western Illinois University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in sports management. Currently, Brian serves as the Director of Ticket Services for the Chicago Cubs.

Brian noted, “SVCC is a stepping stone. It is a great first step to develop your mindset for college and become a forward thinker. SVCC was one of the best decisions I ever made. Going to Sauk saved me and gave me a chance to grow and take on responsibility.”

Join SVCC for the Magical Rhine & Moselle River Cruise September 28 - October 6, 2027. We will arrive in Amsterdam and spend 7 nights aboard the Van Loon Cruise MS Nobleman and cruise the Rhine & Moselle Rivers through the Netherlands, Germany, France and depart in Basel, Switzerland. Each student received a furnished tool box funded by ICCB's Non-credit Strategies at Work Grant to assist them in the workforce. 🎉 That's a wrap on College for Kids 2026! 🎉

A big THANK YOU to all of the amazing students, families, instructors, and staff who made this summer such a success. From science experiments and technology projects to art, cooking, and theatre, our students brought enthusiasm, creativity, and curiosity to every class.

We hope each student discovered something new, made new friends, and created memories that will last long after summer ends. Thank you to the parents and guardians for sharing your children with us and supporting their love of learning.

We are proud of all our College for Kids participants and can't wait to see what they accomplish next. Have a safe, fun, and memorable summer!
